New King James VersionNew Living Translation
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.1The next day there was a wedding celebration in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.2and Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the celebration.
And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”3The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.”
Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”4 “Dear woman, that’s not our problem,” Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.5But his mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.6Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons.
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim.7Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled,
And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it.8he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions.
When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.9When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over.
And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”10“A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.11This miraculous sign at Cana in Galilee was the first time Jesus revealed his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.12After the wedding he went to Capernaum for a few days with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples. Jesus Clears the Temple
Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.13It was nearly time for the Jewish Passover celebration, so Jesus went to Jerusalem.
And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business.14In the Temple area he saw merchants selling cattle, sheep, and doves for sacrifices; he also saw dealers at tables exchanging foreign money.
When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.15Jesus made a whip from some ropes and chased them all out of the Temple. He drove out the sheep and cattle, scattered the money changers’ coins over the floor, and turned over their tables.
And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”16Then, going over to the people who sold doves, he told them, “Get these things out of here. Stop turning my Father’s house into a marketplace!”
Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.”17Then his disciples remembered this prophecy from the Scriptures: “Passion for God’s house will consume me.”
So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”18But the Jewish leaders demanded, “What are you doing? If God gave you authority to do this, show us a miraculous sign to prove it.”
Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”19 “All right,” Jesus replied. “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”
Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”20“What!” they exclaimed. “It has taken forty-six years to build this Temple, and you can rebuild it in three days?”
But He was speaking of the temple of His body.21But when Jesus said “this temple,” he meant his own body.
Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.22After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this, and they believed both the Scriptures and what Jesus had said. Jesus and Nicodemus
Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.23Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him.
But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,24But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people.
and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.25No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.
