New King James Version | Berean Study Bible |
On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. | 1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, |
Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. | 2and Jesus and His disciples had also been invited to the wedding. |
And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” | 3When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother said to Him, “They have no more wine.” |
Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.” | 4“Woman, why does this concern us?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.” |
His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.” | 5His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.” |
Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. | 6Now six stone water jars had been set there for the Jewish rites of purification. Each could hold from twenty to thirty gallons. |
Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. | 7Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” So they filled them to the brim. |
And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. | 8“Now draw some out,” He said, “and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so, |
When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. | 9and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not know where it was from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside |
And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!” | 10and said, “Everyone serves the fine wine first, and then the cheap wine after the guests are drunk. But you have saved the fine wine until now!” |
This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him. | 11Jesus performed this, the first of His signs, at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. |
After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days. | 12After this, He went down to Capernaum with His mother and brothers and His disciples, and they stayed there a few days. |
Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. | 13When the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. |
And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. | 14In the temple courts He found men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables. |
When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. | 15So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle. He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. |
And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!” | 16To those selling doves He said, “Get these out of here! How dare you turn My Father’s house into a marketplace!” |
Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.” | 17His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for Your house will consume Me.” |
So the Jews answered and said to Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?” | 18On account of this, the Jews demanded, “What sign can You show us to prove Your authority to do these things?” |
Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” | 19Jesus answered, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up again.” |
Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?” | 20“This temple took forty-six years to build,” the Jews replied, “and You are going to raise it up in three days?” |
But He was speaking of the temple of His body. | 21But Jesus was speaking about the temple of His body. |
Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said. | 22After He was raised from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this. Then they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. |
Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did. | 23While He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the signs He was doing and believed in His name. |
But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men, | 24But Jesus did not entrust Himself to them, for He knew them all. |
and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man. | 25He did not need any testimony about man, for He knew what was in a man. |
