New King James Version | New International Version |
To the Chief Musician. Set to “Lily of the Testimony.” A Michtam of David. For teaching. When he fought against Mesopotamia and Syria of Zobah, and Joab returned and killed twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. O God, You have cast us off; You have broken us down; You have been displeased; Oh, restore us again! | 1For the director of music. To the tune of "The Lily of the Covenant." A miktam of David. For teaching. When he fought Aram Naharaim and Aram Zobah, and when Joab returned and struck down twelve thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt. You have rejected us, God, and burst upon us; you have been angry--now restore us! |
You have made the earth tremble; You have broken it; Heal its breaches, for it is shaking. | 2You have shaken the land and torn it open; mend its fractures, for it is quaking. |
You have shown Your people hard things; You have made us drink the wine of confusion. | 3You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger. |
You have given a banner to those who fear You, That it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah | 4But for those who fear you, you have raised a banner to be unfurled against the bow. |
That Your beloved may be delivered, Save with Your right hand, and hear me. | 5Save us and help us with your right hand, that those you love may be delivered. |
God has spoken in His holiness: “I will rejoice; I will divide Shechem And measure out the Valley of Succoth. | 6God has spoken from his sanctuary: "In triumph I will parcel out Shechem and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth. |
Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is the helmet for My head; Judah is My lawgiver. | 7Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim is my helmet, Judah is my scepter. |
Moab is My washpot; Over Edom I will cast My shoe; Philistia, shout in triumph because of Me.” | 8Moab is my washbasin, on Edom I toss my sandal; over Philistia I shout in triumph." |
Who will bring me to the strong city? Who will lead me to Edom? | 9Who will bring me to the fortified city? Who will lead me to Edom? |
Is it not You, O God, who cast us off? And You, O God, who did not go out with our armies? | 10Is it not you, God, you who have now rejected us and no longer go out with our armies? |
Give us help from trouble, For the help of man is useless. | 11Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless. |
Through God we will do valiantly, For it is He who shall tread down our enemies. | 12With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies. |
