New King James VersionNET Bible
“When the LORD your God brings you into the land which you go to possess, and has cast out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,1When the LORD your God brings you to the land that you are going to occupy and forces out many nations before you--Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you--
and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you, you shall conquer them and utterly destroy them. You shall make no covenant with them nor show mercy to them.2and he delivers them over to you and you attack them, you must utterly annihilate them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy!
Nor shall you make marriages with them. You shall not give your daughter to their son, nor take their daughter for your son.3You must not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,
For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; so the anger of the LORD will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.4for they will turn your sons away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will erupt against you and he will quickly destroy you.
But thus you shall deal with them: you shall destroy their altars, and break down their sacred pillars, and cut down their wooden images, and burn their carved images with fire.5Instead, this is what you must do to them: You must tear down their altars, shatter their sacred pillars, cut down their sacred Asherah poles, and burn up their idols.
“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth.6For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. He has chosen you to be his people, prized above all others on the face of the earth.
The LORD did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples;7It is not because you were more numerous than all the other peoples that the LORD favored and chose you--for in fact you were the least numerous of all peoples.
but because the LORD loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the LORD has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.8Rather it is because of his love for you and his faithfulness to the promise he solemnly vowed to your ancestors that the LORD brought you out with great power, redeeming you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.
“Therefore know that the LORD your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments;9So realize that the LORD your God is the true God, the faithful God who keeps covenant faithfully with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations,
and He repays those who hate Him to their face, to destroy them. He will not be slack with him who hates Him; He will repay him to his face.10but who pays back those who hate him as they deserve and destroys them. He will not ignore those who hate him but will repay them as they deserve!
Therefore you shall keep the commandment, the statutes, and the judgments which I command you today, to observe them.11So keep the commandments, statutes, and ordinances that I today am commanding you to do.
“Then it shall come to pass, because you listen to these judgments, and keep and do them, that the LORD your God will keep with you the covenant and the mercy which He swore to your fathers.12If you obey these ordinances and are careful to do them, the LORD your God will faithfully keep covenant with you as he promised your ancestors.
And He will love you and bless you and multiply you; He will also bless the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your land, your grain and your new wine and your oil, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flock, in the land of which He swore to your fathers to give you.13He will love and bless you, and make you numerous. He will bless you with many children, with the produce of your soil, your grain, your new wine, your oil, the offspring of your oxen, and the young of your flocks in the land which he promised your ancestors to give you.
You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.14You will be blessed beyond all peoples; there will be no barrenness among you or your livestock.
And the LORD will take away from you all sickness, and will afflict you with none of the terrible diseases of Egypt which you have known, but will lay them on all those who hate you.15The LORD will protect you from all sickness, and you will not experience any of the terrible diseases that you knew in Egypt; instead he will inflict them on all those who hate you.
Also you shall destroy all the peoples whom the LORD your God delivers over to you; your eye shall have no pity on them; nor shall you serve their gods, for that will be a snare to you.16You must destroy all the people whom the LORD your God is about to deliver over to you; you must not pity them or worship their gods, for that will be a snare to you.
“If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’—17If you think, "These nations are more numerous than I--how can I dispossess them?"
you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:18you must not fear them. You must carefully recall what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt,
the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders, the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. So shall the LORD your God do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.19the great judgments you saw, the signs and wonders, the strength and power by which he brought you out--thus the LORD your God will do to all the people you fear.
Moreover the LORD your God will send the hornet among them until those who are left, who hide themselves from you, are destroyed.20Furthermore, the LORD your God will release hornets among them until the very last ones who hide from you perish.
You shall not be terrified of them; for the LORD your God, the great and awesome God, is among you.21You must not tremble in their presence, for the LORD your God, who is present among you, is a great and awesome God.
And the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you little by little; you will be unable to destroy them at once, lest the beasts of the field become too numerous for you.22He, the God who leads you, will expel the nations little by little. You will not be allowed to destroy them all at once lest the wild animals overrun you.
But the LORD your God will deliver them over to you, and will inflict defeat upon them until they are destroyed.23The LORD your God will give them over to you; he will throw them into a great panic until they are destroyed.
And He will deliver their kings into your hand, and you will destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand against you until you have destroyed them.24He will hand over their kings to you and you will erase their very names from memory. Nobody will be able to resist you until you destroy them.
You shall burn the carved images of their gods with fire; you shall not covet the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it for yourselves, lest you be snared by it; for it is an abomination to the LORD your God.25You must burn the images of their gods, but do not covet the silver and gold that covers them so much that you take it for yourself and thus become ensnared by it; for it is abhorrent to the LORD your God.
Nor shall you bring an abomination into your house, lest you be doomed to destruction like it. You shall utterly detest it and utterly abhor it, for it is an accursed thing.26You must not bring any abhorrent thing into your house and thereby become an object of divine wrath along with it. You must absolutely detest and abhor it, for it is an object of divine wrath.
