| 1“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. | 1"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. |
| 2Now when he had agreed with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. | 2After agreeing with the workers on one denarius for the day, he sent them into his vineyard. |
| 3And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, | 3When he went out about nine in the morning, he saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. |
| 4and said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you.’ So they went. | 4To those men he said, You also go to my vineyard, and I'll give you whatever is right.' So off they went. |
| 5Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour, and did likewise. | 5About noon and at three, he went out again and did the same thing. |
| 6And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle, and said to them, ‘Why have you been standing here idle all day?’ | 6Then about five he went and found others standing around, and said to them, Why have you been standing here all day doing nothing?' |
| 7They said to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You also go into the vineyard, and whatever is right you will receive.’ | 7"Because no one hired us,' they said to him. "'You also go to my vineyard,' he told them. |
| 8“So when evening had come, the owner of the vineyard said to his steward, ‘Call the laborers and give them their wages, beginning with the last to the first.’ | 8When evening came, the owner of the vineyard told his foreman, Call the workers and give them their pay, starting with the last and ending with the first.' |
| 9And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they each received a denarius. | 9"When those who were hired about five came, they each received one denarius. |

| 11And when they had received it, they complained against the landowner, | 11When they received it, they began to complain to the landowner: |
| 12saying, ‘These last men have worked only one hour, and you made them equal to us who have borne the burden and the heat of the day.’ | 12These last men put in one hour, and you made them equal to us who bore the burden of the day and the burning heat!' |
| 13But he answered one of them and said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? | 13"He replied to one of them, Friend, I'm doing you no wrong. Didn't you agree with me on a denarius? |
| 14Take what is yours and go your way. I wish to give to this last man the same as to you. | 14Take what's yours and go. I want to give this last man the same as I gave you. |
| 15Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ | 15Don't I have the right to do what I want with my business? Are you jealous because I'm generous?' |

| 17Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, | 17While going up to Jerusalem, Jesus took the 12 disciples aside privately and said to them on the way: |
| 18“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, | 18"Listen! We are going up to Jerusalem. The Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. |
| 19and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again.” | 19Then they will hand Him over to the Gentiles to be mocked, flogged, and crucified, and He will be resurrected on the third day." |
| 20Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. | 20Then the mother of Zebedee's sons approached Him with her sons. She knelt down to ask Him for something. |
| 21And He said to her, “What do you wish?” She said to Him, “Grant that these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right hand and the other on the left, in Your kingdom.” | 21"What do you want?" | 22But Jesus answered and said, “You do not know what you ask. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to Him, “We are able.” | 22But Jesus answered, "You don't know what you're asking. | 23So He said to them, “You will indeed drink My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on My right hand and on My left is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it is prepared by My Father.” | 23He told them, "You will indeed drink My cup. | 24And when the ten heard it, they were greatly displeased with the two brothers. | 24When the 10 disciples heard this, they became indignant with the two brothers. |

| 26Yet it shall not be so among you; but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant. | 26It must not be like that among you. On the contrary, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, |

| 30And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, cried out, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” | 30There were two blind men sitting by the road. | 31Then the multitude warned them that they should be quiet; but they cried out all the more, saying, “Have mercy on us, O Lord, Son of David!” | 31The crowd told them to keep quiet, but they cried out all the more, "Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!" |
| 32So Jesus stood still and called them, and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” | 32Jesus stopped, called them, and said, "What do you want Me to do for you?"" |
