| 1He also came to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple named Timothy was there, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but whose father was a Greek. | 1Paul went first to Derbe and then to Lystra, where there was a young disciple named Timothy. His mother was a Jewish believer, but his father was a Greek. |
| 2The brothers in Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him. | 2Timothy was well thought of by the believers in Lystra and Iconium, |
| 3Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was Greek. | 3so Paul wanted him to join them on their journey. So now they want us to leave secretly? Certainly not! Let them come themselves to release us!” |
