"I made myself available to those who did not ask for me; I appeared to those who did not look for me. I said, 'Here I am! Here I am!' to a nation that did not invoke my name. | 1I was sought by those who did not ask; I was found by those who did not seek Me. I said: Here I am, here I am, to a nation that was not called by My name. |
I spread out my hands all day long to my rebellious people, who lived in a way that is morally unacceptable, and who did what they desired. | 2I spread out My hands all day long to a rebellious people who walk in the wrong path, following their own thoughts. |
These people continually and blatantly offend me as they sacrifice in their sacred orchards and burn incense on brick altars. | 3These people continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in gardens, burning incense on bricks, |
They sit among the tombs and keep watch all night long. They eat pork, and broth from unclean sacrificial meat is in their pans. | 4sitting among the graves, spending nights in secret places, eating the meat of pigs, and putting polluted broth in their bowls. |
They say, 'Keep to yourself! Don't get near me, for I am holier than you!' These people are like smoke in my nostrils, like a fire that keeps burning all day long. | 5They say, 'Keep to yourself, don't come near me, for I am too holy for you!' These practices are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day long. |
Look, I have decreed: I will not keep silent, but will pay them back; I will pay them back exactly what they deserve, | 6It is written before Me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will repay them fully |
for your sins and your ancestors' sins," says the LORD. "Because they burned incense on the mountains and offended me on the hills, I will punish them in full measure." | 7for your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together," says the LORD." Because they burned incense on the mountains and reproached Me on the hills, I will reward them fully for their former deeds." |
This is what the LORD says: "When juice is discovered in a cluster of grapes, someone says, 'Don't destroy it, for it contains juice.' So I will do for the sake of my servants--I will not destroy everyone. | 8The LORD says this: As the new wine is found in a bunch of grapes, and one says, 'Don't destroy it, for there's some good in it,' so I will act because of My servants and not destroy them all. |
I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and from Judah people to take possession of my mountains. My chosen ones will take possession of the land; my servants will live there. | 9I will produce descendants from Jacob, and heirs to My mountains from Judah; My chosen ones will possess it, and My servants will dwell there. |
Sharon will become a pasture for sheep, and the Valley of Achor a place where cattle graze; they will belong to my people, who seek me. | 10Sharon will be a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a place for cattle to lie down, for My people who have sought Me. |
But as for you who abandon the LORD and forget about worshiping at my holy mountain, who prepare a feast for the god called 'Fortune,' and fill up wine jugs for the god called 'Destiny'-- | 11But you who abandon the LORD, who forget My holy mountain, who prepare a table for Fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny, |
I predestine you to die by the sword, all of you will kneel down at the slaughtering block, because I called to you, and you did not respond, I spoke and you did not listen. You did evil before me; you chose to do what displeases me." | 12I will destine you for the sword, and all of you will kneel down to be slaughtered, because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not hear; you did what was evil in My sight and chose what I did not delight in. |
So this is what the sovereign LORD says: "Look, my servants will eat, but you will be hungry! Look, my servants will drink, but you will be thirsty! Look, my servants will rejoice, but you will be humiliated! | 13Therefore, this is what the Lord GOD says: My servants will eat, but you will be hungry; My servants will drink, but you will be thirsty; My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame. |
Look, my servants will shout for joy as happiness fills their hearts! But you will cry out as sorrow fills your hearts; you will wail because your spirits will be crushed. | 14My servants will shout for joy from a glad heart, but you will cry out from an anguished heart, and you will lament out of a broken spirit. |
Your names will live on in the curse formulas of my chosen ones. The sovereign LORD will kill you, but he will give his servants another name. | 15You will leave your name behind as a curse for My chosen ones, and the Lord GOD will kill you; but He will give His servants another name. |
Whoever pronounces a blessing in the earth will do so in the name of the faithful God; whoever makes an oath in the earth will do so in the name of the faithful God. For past problems will be forgotten; I will no longer think about them. | 16Whoever is blessed in the land will be blessed by the God of truth, and whoever swears in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the former troubles will be forgotten and hidden from My sight." |
For look, I am ready to create new heavens and a new earth! The former ones will not be remembered; no one will think about them anymore. | 17For I will create a new heaven and a new earth; the past events will not be remembered or come to mind. |
But be happy and rejoice forevermore over what I am about to create! For look, I am ready to create Jerusalem to be a source of joy, and her people to be a source of happiness. | 18Then be glad and rejoice forever in what I am creating; for I will create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight. |
Jerusalem will bring me joy, and my people will bring me happiness. The sound of weeping or cries of sorrow will never be heard in her again. | 19I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in My people. The sound of weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her. |
Never again will one of her infants live just a few days or an old man die before his time. Indeed, no one will die before the age of a hundred, anyone who fails to reach the age of a hundred will be considered cursed. | 20In her, a nursing infant will no longer live only a few days, or an old man not live out his days. Indeed, the youth will die at a hundred years, and the one who misses a hundred years will be cursed. |
They will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. | 21People will build houses and live in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit. |
No longer will they build a house only to have another live in it, or plant a vineyard only to have another eat its fruit, for my people will live as long as trees, and my chosen ones will enjoy to the fullest what they have produced. | 22They will not build and others live in them; they will not plant and others eat. For My people's lives will be like the lifetime of a tree. My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands. |
They will not work in vain, or give birth to children that will experience disaster. For the LORD will bless their children and their descendants. | 23They will not labor without success or bear children destined for disaster, for they will be a people blessed by the LORD along with their descendants. |
Before they even call out, I will respond; while they are still speaking, I will hear. | 24Even before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear. |
A wolf and a lamb will graze together; a lion, like an ox, will eat straw, and a snake's food will be dirt. They will no longer injure or destroy on my entire royal mountain," says the LORD. | 25The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the serpent's food will be dust! They will not do what is evil or destroy on My entire holy mountain," says the LORD. |
