| 15The man went away and informed the Jewish leaders that Jesus was the one who had made him well. | 15The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him. |

| 18For this reason the Jewish leaders were trying even harder to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was also calling God his own Father, thus making himself equal with God. | 18This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. |
| 19So Jesus answered them, "I tell you the solemn truth, the Son can do nothing on his own initiative, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise. | 19So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. |

| 39You study the scriptures thoroughly because you think in them you possess eternal life, and it is these same scriptures that testify about me, | 39You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, |

| 45"Do not suppose that I will accuse you before the Father. The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have placed your hope. | 45Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope. |
| 46If you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me. | 46For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me. |
