To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, the servant of the LORD, who spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul: And he said, I will love thee, O LORD, my strength.1For the choir director. Of the servant of the LORD, David, who spoke the words of this song to the LORD on the day the LORD rescued him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love You, LORD, my strength.
The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my mountain where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.3I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies.
The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.4The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me.
The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me.5The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears.6I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From His temple He heard my voice, and my cry to Him reached His ears.
Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth.7Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because He burned with anger.
There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.8Smoke rose from His nostrils, and consuming fire came from His mouth; coals were set ablaze by it.
He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet.9He parted the heavens and came down, a dark cloud beneath His feet.
And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind.10He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind.
He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.11He made darkness His hiding place, dark storm clouds His canopy around Him.
At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire.12From the radiance of His presence, His clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals.
The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire.13The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High projected His voice.
Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them.14He shot His arrows and scattered them; He hurled lightning bolts and routed them.
Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.15The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at Your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.
He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters.16He reached down from heaven and took hold of me; He pulled me out of deep waters.
He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me.17He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.18They confronted me in the day of my distress, but the LORD was my support.
He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me.19He brought me out to a spacious place; He rescued me because He delighted in me.
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.20The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; He repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.21For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness.
For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me.22Indeed, I have kept all His ordinances in mind and have not disregarded His statutes.
I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity.23I was blameless toward Him and kept myself from sinning.
Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.24So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in His sight.
With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright;25With the faithful You prove Yourself faithful; with the blameless man You prove Yourself blameless;
With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward.26with the pure You prove Yourself pure, but with the crooked You prove Yourself shrewd.
For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks.27For You rescue an afflicted people, but You humble those with haughty eyes.
For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.28 LORD, You light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness.
For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall.29With You I can attack a barrier, and with my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him.30God--His way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God?31For who is God besides Yahweh? And who is a rock? Only our God.
It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.32God--He clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect.
He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places.33He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights.
He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.34He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.35You have given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand upholds me, and Your humility exalts me.
Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip.36You widen a place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way.
I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed.37I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out.
I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet.38I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet.
For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.39You have clothed me with strength for battle; You subdue my adversaries beneath me.
Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me.40You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me.
They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.41They cry for help, but there is no one to save them-- they cry to the LORD, but He does not answer them.
Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets.42I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets.
Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me.43You have freed me from the feuds among the people; You have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me.
As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me.44Foreigners submit to me grudgingly; as soon as they hear, they obey me.
The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places.45Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications.
The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted.46The LORD lives--may my rock be praised! The God of my salvation is exalted.
It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.47God--He gives me vengeance and subdues peoples under me.
He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man.48He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; You rescue me from violent men.
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.49Therefore I will praise You, Yahweh, among the nations; I will sing about Your name.
Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.50He gives great victories to His king; He shows loyalty to His anointed, to David and his descendants forever.
