| 1Then again Abraham took a wife, and her name was Keturah. | 1Now Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah, |

| 5And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. | 5Abraham gave everything he owned to Isaac. |
| 6But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. | 6And Abraham gave gifts to the sons of his concubines, but while he was still alive he sent them eastward, away from his son Isaac, to the land of the East. |
| 7And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. | 7This is the length of Abraham's life: 175 years. |
| 8Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. | 8He took his last breath and died at a ripe old age, old and contented, and he was gathered to his people. |
| 9And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; | 9His sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah near Mamre, in the field of Ephron son of Zohar the Hittite. |
| 10The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. | 10This was the field that Abraham bought from the Hittites. Abraham was buried there with his wife Sarah. |
| 11And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi. | 11After Abraham's death, God blessed his son Isaac, who lived near Beer-lahai-roi. |
| 12Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: | 12These are the family records of Abraham's son Ishmael, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's slave, bore to Abraham. |
| 13And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, | 13These are the names of Ishmael's sons; their names according to the family records are: Nebaioth, Ishmael's firstborn, then Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam, |
| 14And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, | 14Mishma, Dumah, Massa, |
| 15Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: | 15Hadad, Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. |
| 16These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. | 16These are Ishmael's sons, and these are their names by their villages and encampments: 12 leaders of their clans. |
| 17And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. | 17This is the length of Ishmael's life: 137 years. He took his last breath and died, and was gathered to his people. |
| 18And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren. | 18And they settled from Havilah to Shur, which is opposite Egypt as you go toward Asshur. He lived in opposition to all his brothers. |
| 19And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac: | 19These are the family records of Isaac son of Abraham. Abraham fathered Isaac. |
| 20And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. | 20Isaac was 40 years old when he took as his wife Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan-aram and sister of Laban the Aramean. |
| 21And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. | 21Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife because she was childless. The LORD heard his prayer, and his wife Rebekah conceived. |
| 22And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to inquire of the LORD. | 22But the children inside her struggled with each other, and she said, "Why is this happening to me?" So she went to inquire of the LORD. |
| 23And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. | 23And the LORD said to her: Two nations are in your womb; two people will come from you and be separated. One people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger. |
| 24And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. | 24When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb. |
| 25And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. | 25The first one came out red-looking, covered with hair like a fur coat, and they named him Esau. |
| 26And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. | 26After this, his brother came out grasping Esau's heel with his hand. So he was named Jacob. Isaac was 60 years old when they were born. |
| 27And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. | 27When the boys grew up, Esau became an expert hunter, an outdoorsman, but Jacob was a quiet man who stayed at home. |
| 28And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. | 28Isaac loved Esau because he had a taste for wild game, but Rebekah loved Jacob. |
| 29And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: | 29Once when Jacob was cooking a stew, Esau came in from the field exhausted. |
| 30And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. | 30He said to Jacob, "Let me eat some of that red stuff, because I'm exhausted." That is why he was also named Edom. |
| 31And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. | 31Jacob replied, "First sell me your birthright."" |
| 32And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? | 32Look," said Esau, "I'm about to die, so what good is a birthright to me?" |
| 33And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. | 33Jacob said, "Swear to me first." So he swore to Jacob and sold his birthright to him. |
| 34Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. | 34Then Jacob gave bread and lentil stew to Esau; he ate, drank, got up, and went away. So Esau despised his birthright. |
