King James Bible | English Standard Version |
To the chief Musician, to Jeduthun, A Psalm of Asaph. I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me. | 1I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. |
In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. | 2In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. |
I remembered God, and was troubled: I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah. | 3When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah |
Thou holdest mine eyes waking: I am so troubled that I cannot speak. | 4You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. |
I have considered the days of old, the years of ancient times. | 5I consider the days of old, the years long ago. |
I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search. | 6I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: |
Will the Lord cast off for ever? and will he be favourable no more? | 7“Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? |
Is his mercy clean gone for ever? doth his promise fail for evermore? | 8Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? |
Hath God forgotten to be gracious? hath he in anger shut up his tender mercies? Selah. | 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah |
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. | 10Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” |
I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. |
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. | 12I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. |
Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God? | 13Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? |
Thou art the God that doest wonders: thou hast declared thy strength among the people. | 14You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. |
Thou hast with thine arm redeemed thy people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah. | 15You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah |
The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. | 16When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. |
The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad. | 17The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. |
The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook. | 18The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. |
Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known. | 19Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. |
Thou leddest thy people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
