Isaiah 26
ISV Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
International Standard VersionNew Living Translation
At that time, people will sing this song in the land of Judah: "We have a strong city; God crafts victory, its walls and ramparts. 1In that day, everyone in the land of Judah will sing this song: Our city is strong! We are surrounded by the walls of God’s salvation.
Open your gates, so the righteous nation that safeguards its faith may enter.2Open the gates to all who are righteous; allow the faithful to enter.
You will keep perfectly peaceful the one whose mind remains focused on you, because he remains in you.3You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!
"Trust in the LORD forever, for in the LORD GOD you have an everlasting rock.4Trust in the LORD always, for the LORD God is the eternal Rock.
For he has made drunk the inhabitants of the height, the lofty city. He lays it low to the ground casting it down to the dust,5He humbles the proud and brings down the arrogant city. He brings it down to the dust.
by the feet of the oppressed who trample it, by the footsteps of the needy. 6The poor and oppressed trample it underfoot, and the needy walk all over it.
"The path of the righteous is level; O Upright One, you make safe the way of justice. 7But for those who are righteous, the way is not steep and rough. You are a God who does what is right, and you smooth out the path ahead of them.
Yes, LORD, in the path of your judgments we wait; your name and your Law are the soul's desire.8LORD, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.
My soul yearns for you in the night; my spirit within me searches for you. For when your judgments come upon the earth, the world's inhabitants learn righteousness.9In the night I search for you; in the morning I earnestly seek you. For only when you come to judge the earth will people learn what is right.
If favor is shown to the wicked, they don't learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they act perversely and do not perceive the majesty of the LORD.10Your kindness to the wicked does not make them do good. Although others do right, the wicked keep doing wrong and take no notice of the LORD’s majesty.
"LORD, your hand is lifted up, but they do not see it. And let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame— yes, let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them!11O LORD, they pay no attention to your upraised fist. Show them your eagerness to defend your people. Then they will be ashamed. Let your fire consume your enemies.
LORD, you will decide peace for us, for you have indeed accomplished all our achievements for us.12LORD, you will grant us peace; all we have accomplished is really from you.
O LORD our God, other lords besides you have ruled over us, but through you alone we acknowledge your name.13O LORD our God, others have ruled us, but you alone are the one we worship.
The dead won't live, and the departed spirits won't rise— to that end, you punished and destroyed them, then locked away all memory of them.14Those we served before are dead and gone. Their departed spirits will never return! You attacked them and destroyed them, and they are long forgotten.
"But you have enlarged the nation, LORD; you have enlarged the nation. You have gained honor; you have extended all the borders of the land.15O LORD, you have made our nation great; yes, you have made us great. You have extended our borders, and we give you the glory!
LORD, they came to you in distress; they poured out their secret prayer when your chastenings were afflicting them.16LORD, in distress we searched for you. We prayed beneath the burden of your discipline.
Just as a pregnant woman writhes and cries out during her labor when she is about to give birth, so were we because of you, LORD.17Just as a pregnant woman writhes and cries out in pain as she gives birth, so were we in your presence, LORD.
We were pregnant, writhing in pain, but we gave birth only to wind. We have not won your victory on earth, nor have the inhabitants of the world been born."18We, too, writhe in agony, but nothing comes of our suffering. We have not given salvation to the earth, nor brought life into the world.
"But your dead will live; their bodies will rise. Those who live in the dust will wake up and shout for joy! For your dew is like the dew of dawn, and the earth will give birth to the dead.19But those who die in the LORD will live; their bodies will rise again! Those who sleep in the earth will rise up and sing for joy! For your life-giving light will fall like dew on your people in the place of the dead! Restoration for Israel
Come, my people, enter your rooms and shut your doors behind you. Hide yourselves for a little while until the fury has passed by.20Go home, my people, and lock your doors! Hide yourselves for a little while until the LORD’s anger has passed.
For see, the LORD is coming from his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their sins; the earth will reveal the blood that has been shed on it, and will no longer conceal its slain."21Look! The LORD is coming from heaven to punish the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will no longer hide those who have been killed. They will be brought out for all to see.
