I love you, LORD, my strength. | 1I love you, LORD; you are my strength. |
The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock where I seek refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. | 2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock, in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety. |
I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I was saved from my enemies. | 3I called on the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and he saved me from my enemies. |
The ropes of death were wrapped around me; the torrents of destruction terrified me. | 4The ropes of death entangled me; floods of destruction swept over me. |
The ropes of Sheol entangled me; the snares of death confronted me. | 5The grave wrapped its ropes around me; death laid a trap in my path. |
I called to the LORD in my distress, and I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. | 6But in my distress I cried out to the LORD; yes, I prayed to my God for help. He heard me from his sanctuary; my cry to him reached his ears. |
Then the earth shook and quaked; the foundations of the mountains trembled; they shook because he burned with anger. | 7Then the earth quaked and trembled. The foundations of the mountains shook; they quaked because of his anger. |
Smoke rose from his nostrils, and consuming fire came from his mouth; coals were set ablaze by it. | 8Smoke poured from his nostrils; fierce flames leaped from his mouth. Glowing coals blazed forth from him. |
He bent the heavens and came down, total darkness beneath his feet. | 9He opened the heavens and came down; dark storm clouds were beneath his feet. |
He rode on a cherub and flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. | 10Mounted on a mighty angelic being, he flew, soaring on the wings of the wind. |
He made darkness his hiding place, dark storm clouds his canopy around him. | 11He shrouded himself in darkness, veiling his approach with dark rain clouds. |
From the radiance of his presence, his clouds swept onward with hail and blazing coals. | 12Thick clouds shielded the brightness around him and rained down hail and burning coals. |
The LORD thundered from heaven; the Most High made his voice heard. | 13The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded amid the hail and burning coals. |
He shot his arrows and scattered them; he hurled lightning bolts and routed them. | 14He shot his arrows and scattered his enemies; great bolts of lightning flashed, and they were confused. |
The depths of the sea became visible, the foundations of the world were exposed, at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of the breath of your nostrils. | 15Then at your command, O LORD, at the blast of your breath, the bottom of the sea could be seen, and the foundations of the earth were laid bare. |
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he pulled me out of deep water. | 16He reached down from heaven and rescued me; he drew me out of deep waters. |
He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me. | 17He rescued me from my powerful enemies, from those who hated me and were too strong for me. |
They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support. | 18They attacked me at a moment when I was in distress, but the LORD supported me. |
He brought me out to a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. | 19He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me. |
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; he repaid me according to the cleanness of my hands. | 20The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he restored me because of my innocence. |
For I have kept the ways of the LORD and have not turned from my God to wickedness. | 21For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I have not turned from my God to follow evil. |
Indeed, I let all his ordinances guide me and have not disregarded his statutes. | 22I have followed all his regulations; I have never abandoned his decrees. |
I was blameless toward him and kept myself from my iniquity. | 23I am blameless before God; I have kept myself from sin. |
So the LORD repaid me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight. | 24The LORD rewarded me for doing right. He has seen my innocence. |
With the faithful you prove yourself faithful, with the blameless you prove yourself blameless, | 25To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity. |
with the pure you prove yourself pure; but with the crooked you prove yourself shrewd. | 26To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself shrewd. |
For you rescue an oppressed people, but you humble those with haughty eyes. | 27You rescue the humble, but you humiliate the proud. |
LORD, you light my lamp; my God illuminates my darkness. | 28You light a lamp for me. The LORD, my God, lights up my darkness. |
With you I can attack a barricade, and with my God I can leap over a wall. | 29In your strength I can crush an army; with my God I can scale any wall. |
God--his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is pure. He is a shield to all who take refuge in him. | 30God’s way is perfect. All the LORD’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. |
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is a rock? Only our God. | 31For who is God except the LORD? Who but our God is a solid rock? |
God--he clothes me with strength and makes my way perfect. | 32God arms me with strength, and he makes my way perfect. |
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer and sets me securely on the heights. | 33He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. |
He trains my hands for war; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. | 34He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. |
You have given me the shield of your salvation; your right hand upholds me, and your humility exalts me. | 35You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great. |
You make a spacious place beneath me for my steps, and my ankles do not give way. | 36You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping. |
I pursue my enemies and overtake them; I do not turn back until they are wiped out. | 37I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not stop until they were conquered. |
I crush them, and they cannot get up; they fall beneath my feet. | 38I struck them down so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet. |
You have clothed me with strength for battle; you subdue my adversaries beneath me. | 39You have armed me with strength for the battle; you have subdued my enemies under my feet. |
You have made my enemies retreat before me; I annihilate those who hate me. | 40You placed my foot on their necks. I have destroyed all who hated me. |
They cry for help, but there is no one to save them--they cry to the LORD, but he does not answer them. | 41They called for help, but no one came to their rescue. They even cried to the LORD, but he refused to answer. |
I pulverize them like dust before the wind; I trample them like mud in the streets. | 42I ground them as fine as dust in the wind. I swept them into the gutter like dirt. |
You have freed me from the feuds among the people; you have appointed me the head of nations; a people I had not known serve me. | 43You gave me victory over my accusers. You appointed me ruler over nations; people I don’t even know now serve me. |
Foreigners submit to me cringing; as soon as they hear they obey me. | 44As soon as they hear of me, they submit; foreign nations cringe before me. |
Foreigners lose heart and come trembling from their fortifications. | 45They all lose their courage and come trembling from their strongholds. |
The LORD lives--blessed be my rock! The God of my salvation is exalted. | 46The LORD lives! Praise to my Rock! May the God of my salvation be exalted! |
God--he grants me vengeance and subdues peoples under me. | 47He is the God who pays back those who harm me; he subdues the nations under me |
He frees me from my enemies. You exalt me above my adversaries; you rescue me from violent men. | 48and rescues me from my enemies. You hold me safe beyond the reach of my enemies; you save me from violent opponents. |
Therefore I will give thanks to you among the nations, LORD; I will sing praises about your name. | 49For this, O LORD, I will praise you among the nations; I will sing praises to your name. |
He gives great victories to his king; he shows loyalty to his anointed, to David and his descendants forever. | 50You give great victories to your king; you show unfailing love to your anointed, to David and all his descendants forever. |
