CSB Parallel NLT [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
Christian Standard BibleNew Living Translation
"When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, and he drives out many nations before you--the Hethites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and powerful than you--1“When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are about to enter and occupy, he will clear away many nations ahead of you: the Hittites, Girgashites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites. These seven nations are greater and more numerous than you.
and when the LORD your God delivers them over to you and you defeat them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaty with them and show them no mercy.2When the LORD your God hands these nations over to you and you conquer them, you must completely destroy them. Make no treaties with them and show them no mercy.
You must not intermarry with them, and you must not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,3You must not intermarry with them. Do not let your daughters and sons marry their sons and daughters,
because they will turn your sons away from me to worship other gods. Then the LORD's anger will burn against you, and he will swiftly destroy you.4for they will lead your children away from me to worship other gods. Then the anger of the LORD will burn against you, and he will quickly destroy you.
Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles, and burn their carved images.5This is what you must do. You must break down their pagan altars and shatter their sacred pillars. Cut down their Asherah poles and burn their idols.
For you are a holy people belonging to the LORD your God. The LORD your God has chosen you to be his own possession out of all the peoples on the face of the earth.6For you are a holy people, who belong to the LORD your God. Of all the people on earth, the LORD your God has chosen you to be his own special treasure.
"The LORD had his heart set on you and chose you, not because you were more numerous than all peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples.7“The LORD did not set his heart on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other nations, for you were the smallest of all nations!
But because the LORD loved you and kept the oath he swore to your fathers, he brought you out with a strong hand and redeemed you from the place of slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt.8Rather, it was simply that the LORD loves you, and he was keeping the oath he had sworn to your ancestors. That is why the LORD rescued you with such a strong hand from your slavery and from the oppressive hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.
Know that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps his gracious covenant loyalty for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commands.9Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands.
But he directly pays back and destroys those who hate him. He will not hesitate to pay back directly the one who hates him.10But he does not hesitate to punish and destroy those who reject him.
So keep the command--the statutes and ordinances--that I am giving you to follow today.11Therefore, you must obey all these commands, decrees, and regulations I am giving you today.
"If you listen to and are careful to keep these ordinances, the LORD your God will keep his covenant loyalty with you, as he swore to your fathers.12“If you listen to these regulations and faithfully obey them, the LORD your God will keep his covenant of unfailing love with you, as he promised with an oath to your ancestors.
He will love you, bless you, and multiply you. He will bless your offspring, and the produce of your land--your grain, new wine, and fresh oil--the young of your herds, and the newborn of your flocks, in the land he swore to your fathers that he would give you.13He will love you and bless you, and he will give you many children. He will give fertility to your land and your animals. When you arrive in the land he swore to give your ancestors, you will have large harvests of grain, new wine, and olive oil, and great herds of cattle, sheep, and goats.
You will be blessed above all peoples; there will be no infertile male or female among you or your livestock.14You will be blessed above all the nations of the earth. None of your men or women will be childless, and all your livestock will bear young.
The LORD will remove all sickness from you; he will not put on you all the terrible diseases of Egypt that you know about, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.15And the LORD will protect you from all sickness. He will not let you suffer from the terrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all your enemies!
You must destroy all the peoples the LORD your God is delivering over to you and not look on them with pity. Do not worship their gods, for that will be a snare to you.16“You must destroy all the nations the LORD your God hands over to you. Show them no mercy, and do not worship their gods, or they will trap you.
"If you say to yourself, 'These nations are greater than I; how can I drive them out?'17Perhaps you will think to yourselves, ‘How can we ever conquer these nations that are so much more powerful than we are?’
do not be afraid of them. Be sure to remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and all Egypt:18But don’t be afraid of them! Just remember what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all the land of Egypt.
the great trials that you saw, the signs and wonders, the strong hand and outstretched arm, by which the LORD your God brought you out. The LORD your God will do the same to all the peoples you fear.19Remember the great terrors the LORD your God sent against them. You saw it all with your own eyes! And remember the miraculous signs and wonders, and the strong hand and powerful arm with which he brought you out of Egypt. The LORD your God will use this same power against all the people you fear.
The LORD your God will also send hornets against them until all the survivors and those hiding from you perish.20And then the LORD your God will send terror to drive out the few survivors still hiding from you!
Don't be terrified of them, for the LORD your God, a great and awesome God, is among you.21“No, do not be afraid of those nations, for the LORD your God is among you, and he is a great and awesome God.
The LORD your God will drive out these nations before you little by little. You will not be able to destroy them all at once; otherwise, the wild animals will become too numerous for you.22The LORD your God will drive those nations out ahead of you little by little. You will not clear them away all at once, otherwise the wild animals would multiply too quickly for you.
The LORD your God will give them over to you and throw them into great confusion until they are destroyed.23But the LORD your God will hand them over to you. He will throw them into complete confusion until they are destroyed.
He will hand their kings over to you, and you will wipe out their names under heaven. No one will be able to stand against you; you will annihilate them.24He will put their kings in your power, and you will erase their names from the face of the earth. No one will be able to stand against you, and you will destroy them all.
Burn up the carved images of their gods. Don't covet the silver and gold on the images and take it for yourself, or else you will be ensnared by it, for it is detestable to the LORD your God.25“You must burn their idols in fire, and you must not covet the silver or gold that covers them. You must not take it or it will become a trap to you, for it is detestable to the LORD your God.
Do not bring any detestable thing into your house, or you will be set apart for destruction like it. You are to abhor and detest it utterly because it is set apart for destruction.26Do not bring any detestable objects into your home, for then you will be destroyed, just like them. You must utterly detest such things, for they are set apart for destruction.
