Berean Study Bible | New Living Translation |
For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me. | 1I cry out to God; yes, I shout. Oh, that God would listen to me! |
In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. | 2When I was in deep trouble, I searched for the Lord. All night long I prayed, with hands lifted toward heaven, but my soul was not comforted. |
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah | 3I think of God, and I moan, overwhelmed with longing for his help. Interlude |
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. | 4You don’t let me sleep. I am too distressed even to pray! |
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. | 5I think of the good old days, long since ended, |
At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: | 6when my nights were filled with joyful songs. I search my soul and ponder the difference now. |
“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? | 7Has the Lord rejected me forever? Will he never again be kind to me? |
Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? | 8Is his unfailing love gone forever? Have his promises permanently failed? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he slammed the door on his compassion? Interlude |
So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” | 10And I said, “This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.” |
I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. | 11But then I recall all you have done, O LORD; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. |
I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds. | 12They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. |
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? | 13O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? |
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations. |
With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Interlude |
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken. | 16When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths. |
The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed. |
Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. | 18Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook. |
Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found. | 19Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there! |
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds. |
