Berean Study Bible | English Standard Version |
For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. I cried out to God; I cried aloud to God to hear me. | 1I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, and he will hear me. |
In the day of trouble I sought the Lord; through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary; my soul refused to be comforted. | 2In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. |
I remembered You, O God, and I groaned; I mused and my spirit grew faint. Selah | 3When I remember God, I moan; when I meditate, my spirit faints. Selah |
You have kept my eyes from closing; I am too troubled to speak. | 4You hold my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak. |
I considered the days of old, the years long in the past. | 5I consider the days of old, the years long ago. |
At night I remembered my song; in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered: | 6I said, “Let me remember my song in the night; let me meditate in my heart.” Then my spirit made a diligent search: |
“Will the Lord spurn us forever and never show His favor again? | 7“Will the Lord spurn forever, and never again be favorable? |
Is His loving devotion gone forever? Has His promise failed for all time? | 8Has his steadfast love forever ceased? Are his promises at an end for all time? |
Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has His anger shut off His compassion?” Selah | 9Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger shut up his compassion?” Selah |
So I said, “I am grieved that the right hand of the Most High has changed.” | 10Then I said, “I will appeal to this, to the years of the right hand of the Most High.” |
I will remember the works of the LORD; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old. | 11I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. |
I will reflect on all You have done and ponder Your mighty deeds. | 12I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. |
Your way, O God, is holy. What god is so great as our God? | 13Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? |
You are the God who works wonders; You display Your strength among the peoples. | 14You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. |
With power You redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah | 15You with your arm redeemed your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah |
The waters saw You, O God; the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths were shaken. | 16When the waters saw you, O God, when the waters saw you, they were afraid; indeed, the deep trembled. |
The clouds poured down water; the skies resounded with thunder; Your arrows flashed back and forth. | 17The clouds poured out water; the skies gave forth thunder; your arrows flashed on every side. |
Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. | 18The crash of your thunder was in the whirlwind; your lightnings lighted up the world; the earth trembled and shook. |
Your path led through the sea, Your way through the mighty waters, but Your footprints were not to be found. | 19Your way was through the sea, your path through the great waters; yet your footprints were unseen. |
You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. |
