For the choirmaster. With stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A song. God is known in Judah; His name is great in Israel. | 1God is honored in Judah; his name is great in Israel. |
His tent is in Salem, His dwelling place in Zion. | 2Jerusalem is where he lives; Mount Zion is his home. |
There He shattered the flaming arrows, the shield and sword and weapons of war. Selah | 3There he has broken the fiery arrows of the enemy, the shields and swords and weapons of war. Interlude |
You are resplendent with light, more majestic than mountains filled with game. | 4You are glorious and more majestic than the everlasting mountains. |
The valiant lie plundered; they sleep their last sleep. No men of might could lift a hand. | 5Our boldest enemies have been plundered. They lie before us in the sleep of death. No warrior could lift a hand against us. |
At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both horse and rider lie stunned. | 6At the blast of your breath, O God of Jacob, their horses and chariots lay still. |
You alone are to be feared. When You are angry, who can stand before You? | 7No wonder you are greatly feared! Who can stand before you when your anger explodes? |
From heaven You pronounced judgment, and the earth feared and was still | 8From heaven you sentenced your enemies; the earth trembled and stood silent before you. |
when God rose up to judge, to save all the lowly of the earth. Selah | 9You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue the oppressed of the earth. Interlude |
Even the wrath of man shall praise You; with the survivors of wrath You will clothe Yourself. | 10Human defiance only enhances your glory, for you use it as a weapon. |
Make and fulfill your vows to the LORD your God; let all the neighboring lands bring tribute to Him who is to be feared. | 11Make vows to the LORD your God, and keep them. Let everyone bring tribute to the Awesome One. |
He breaks the spirits of princes; He is feared by the kings of the earth. | 12For he breaks the pride of princes, and the kings of the earth fear him. |
