A Righteous King

1  הֵ֥ן (Behold), לְצֶ֖דֶק (in righteousness), יִמְלָךְ־ (will reign) מֶ֑לֶךְ (a king)

וּלְשָׂרִ֖ים (and princes) לְמִשְׁפָּ֥ט (in justice) יָשֹֽׂרוּ׃ (will rule).

2  וְהָיָה־ (And will be) אִ֥ישׁ (each man) כְּמַֽחֲבֵא־ (like a hiding place) ר֖וּחַ (from the wind),

וְסֵ֣תֶר (and a cover) זָ֑רֶם (from the tempest);

כְּפַלְגֵי־ (like streams) מַ֣יִם (of waters) בְּצָי֔וֹן (in a dry land),

כְּצֵ֥ל (like the shade) סֶֽלַע־ (of a rock) כָּבֵ֖ד (great) בְּאֶ֥רֶץ (in a land) עֲיֵפָֽה׃ (weary).

3  וְלֹ֥א (And not) תִשְׁעֶ֖ינָה (will be closed), עֵינֵ֣י (the eyes) רֹאִ֑ים (of those seeing)

וְאָזְנֵ֥י (and the ears) שֹׁמְעִ֖ים (of those hearing) תִּקְשַֽׁבְנָה׃ (will listen).

4  וּלְבַ֥ב (And the heart) נִמְהָרִ֖ים (of those being hasty) יָבִ֣ין (will understand) לָדָ֑עַת (to know),

וּלְשׁ֣וֹן (and the tongue) עִלְּגִ֔ים (of the stammerers) תְּמַהֵ֖ר (will hurry) לְדַבֵּ֥ר (to speak) צָחֽוֹת׃ (clearly).

5  לֹֽא־ (No) יִקָּרֵ֥א (will be called) ע֛וֹד (longer) לְנָבָ֖ל (the foolish person) נָדִ֑יב (noble),

וּלְכִילַ֕י (and a scoundrel) לֹ֥א (will not) יֵֽאָמֵ֖ר (be said to be) שֽׁוֹעַ׃ (honorable).

6  כִּ֤י (For) נָבָל֙ (a foolish one) נְבָלָ֣ה (foolishness), יְדַבֵּ֔ר (speaks)

וְלִבּ֖וֹ (and his heart) יַעֲשֶׂה־ (makes) אָ֑וֶן (trouble),

לַעֲשׂ֣וֹת (to practice) חֹ֗נֶף (profanity),

וּלְדַבֵּ֤ר (and to speak) אֶל־ (against) יְהוָה֙ (YHWH) תּוֹעָ֔ה (error)

לְהָרִיק֙ (keeping empty) נֶ֣פֶשׁ (the soul) רָעֵ֔ב (of the hungry),

וּמַשְׁקֶ֥ה (and of drink) צָמֵ֖א (the thirsty) יַחְסִֽיר׃ (he deprives).

7  וְכֵלַ֖י (And the scoundrel) כֵּלָ֣יו (his vessels) רָעִ֑ים (are evil);

ה֚וּא (he) זִמּ֣וֹת (wicked plots) יָעָ֔ץ (counsels) לְחַבֵּ֤ל (to destroy) עֲנָוִים (the poor) בְּאִמְרֵי־ (words), שֶׁ֔קֶר (with deceptive)

וּבְדַבֵּ֥ר (even when the plea) אֶבְי֖וֹן (of the needy) מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ (is just).

8  וְנָדִ֖יב (And a noble one) נְדִיב֣וֹת (noble things); יָעָ֑ץ (counsels)

וְה֖וּא (and he) עַל־ (for) נְדִיב֥וֹת (noble things) יָקֽוּם׃פ (will stand).

The Women of Jerusalem

9  נָשִׁים֙ (O women) שַֽׁאֲנַנּ֔וֹת (at ease); קֹ֖מְנָה (rise up),

שְׁמַ֣עְנָה (and hear) קוֹלִ֑י (my voice),

בָּנוֹת֙ (daughters); בֹּֽטח֔וֹת (O secure)

הַאְזֵ֖נָּה (give ear to) אִמְרָתִֽי׃ (my word).

10  יָמִים֙ (In days) עַל־ (upon) שָׁנָ֔ה (a year) תִּרְגַּ֖זְנָה (you will tremble),

בֹּֽטְח֑וֹת (O secure ones);

כִּ֚י (for) כָּלָ֣ה (has ended), בָצִ֔יר (the vintage)

אֹ֖סֶף (the harvest) בְּלִ֥י (will not) יָבֽוֹא׃ (come).

11  חִרְדוּ֙ (Tremble), שַֽׁאֲנַנּ֔וֹת (O ones at ease);

רְגָ֖זָה (quake), בֹּֽטְח֑וֹת (O secure ones);

פְּשֹׁ֣טָֽה (strip yourselves) וְעֹ֔רָה (and make yourselves bare),

וַחֲג֖וֹרָה (and gird) עַל־ (upon) חֲלָצָֽיִם׃ (your loins).

12  עַל־ (For) שָׁדַ֖יִם (breasts), סֹֽפְדִ֑ים (they are lamenting) עַל־ (over) שְׂדֵי־ (the fields), חֶ֕מֶד (of delight)

עַל־ (over) גֶּ֖פֶן (vine) פֹּרִיָּֽה׃ (the fruitful).

13  עַ֚ל (Over) אַדְמַ֣ת (the land) עַמִּ֔י (of my people)

ק֥וֹץ (where thorns) שָׁמִ֖יר (and briers); תַּֽעֲלֶ֑ה (come up)

כִּ֚י (yes), עַל־ (over) כָּל־ (all) בָּתֵּ֣י (the houses) מָשׂ֔וֹשׂ (of joy)

קִרְיָ֖ה (city) עַלִּיזָֽה׃ (in the jubilant).

14  כִּֽי־ (For) אַרְמ֣וֹן (the palace) נֻטָּ֔שׁ (will be forsaken);

הֲמ֥וֹן (the clamor) עִ֖יר (of the city) עֻזָּ֑ב (will be forsaken);

עֹ֣פֶל (and the citadel) וָבַ֜חַן (and watchtower) הָיָ֨ה (will become) בְעַ֤ד (as) מְעָרוֹת֙ (dens) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָ֔ם (forever),

מְשׂ֥וֹשׂ (the joy) פְּרָאִ֖ים (of wild donkeys),

מִרְעֵ֥ה (a pasture) עֲדָרִֽים׃ (for flocks);

15  עַד־ (until) יֵ֨עָרֶ֥ה (is poured) עָלֵ֛ינוּ (upon us)

ר֖וּחַ (the Spirit) מִמָּר֑וֹם (from on high),

וְהָיָ֤ה (and becomes) מִדְבָּר֙ (the wilderness) לַכַּרְמֶ֔ל (as a fertile field),

וְכַרְמֶל (and the fertile field) לַיַּ֥עַר (as a forest) יֵחָשֵֽׁב׃ (is considered).

16  וְשָׁכַ֥ן (Will settle down) בַּמִּדְבָּ֖ר (in the wilderness), מִשְׁפָּ֑ט (Then justice)

וּצְדָקָ֖ה (and righteousness) בַּכַּרְמֶ֥ל (in the fertile field) תֵּשֵֽׁב׃ (will dwell).

17  וְהָיָ֛ה (And will be) מַעֲשֵׂ֥ה (the work of) הַצְּדָקָ֖ה (righteousness) שָׁל֑וֹם (peace);

וַֽעֲבֹדַת֙ (and the labor) הַצְּדָקָ֔ה (of righteousness) הַשְׁקֵ֥ט (quiet) וָבֶ֖טַח (and security) עַד־ (even to) עוֹלָֽם׃ (forever).

18  וְיָשַׁ֥ב (Will settle) עַמִּ֖י (and My people) בִּנְוֵ֣ה (in an abode), שָׁל֑וֹם (of peace)

וּֽבְמִשְׁכְּנוֹת֙ (and in dwelling places), מִבְטַחִ֔ים (of security) וּבִמְנוּחֹ֖ת (and in places of rest); שַׁאֲנַנּֽוֹת׃ (quiet).

19  וּבָרַ֖ד (And it will hail), בְּרֶ֣דֶת (in the going down) הַיָּ֑עַר (of the forest);

וּבַשִּׁפְלָ֖ה (and with its coming low) תִּשְׁפַּ֥ל (will be brought low) הָעִֽיר׃ (the city).

20  אַשְׁרֵיכֶ֕ם (Blessed are you⁺) זֹרְעֵ֖י (who are sowing) עַל־ (beside) כָּל־ (all) מָ֑יִם (waters),

מְשַׁלְּחֵ֥י (sending out) רֶֽגֶל־ (the feet) הַשּׁ֖וֹר (of the ox) וְהַחֲמֽוֹר׃ס (and the donkey).
