1And they set out from Elim, and the Israelites came to the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they left Egypt. 2And the whole congregation of the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: 3And they said to them, “Would (to God) that we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat around pots of meat, and ate our fill of bread. But you have brought us out into this wilderness, to kill us all with hunger.” 4Then the LORD said to Moses, “Look, I will rain food from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain amount each day, that I may test them, whether they will follow My law, or not. 5And on the sixth day, they shall prepare what they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.” 6And Moses and Aaron said to all the Israelites, “At evening, you shall know that the LORD has brought you out from the land of Egypt; 7And in the morning, you shall see the glory of the LORD; because He hears your complaining against Him: and who are we, that you murmur against us?” 8And Moses said, “You will know when the LORD gives you in the evening meat to eat, and in the morning all the bread you want; for the LORD hears your grumblings against Him: and who are we? Your grumbling is not against us, but against the LORD.” 9And Moses told Aaron, “Tell all the congregation of the Israelites, ‘Come before the LORD; for He has heard your murmurings.’” 10And as Aaron spoke to all the Israelites, as they looked toward the wilderness, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. 11And the LORD said to Moses, 12“I have heard the murmurings of the Israelites. Speak to them, and say, ‘At evening you shall eat meat, and in the morning, you shall be filled with bread; and you shall know that I am the LORD your God.’” 13And that evening vast numbers of quails came and covered the camp; and in the morning, the dew lay around the camp. 14And when that dew evaporated, the ground was covered like frost with a small round thing, as fine as the frost upon the ground. 15And when the Israelites saw it, they said to one another, “What is this?!” because they did not know what it was. And Moses told them, “This is the bread which the LORD has given you to eat. 16This is what the LORD has commanded: Gather as much of it as each one needs, an omer (2 quarts) for each person in your tent.” 17And the Israelites did so, and some gathered more, and some less. 18And when they measured it with an omer, those who gathered more had nothing over, and those who gathered little had no less; and every man gathered as much as they needed to eat. 19Then Moses said, “Do not leave any of it until morning.” 20Nevertheless, some did not listen to Moses; but left some of it until the morning. But it bred maggots, and began to smell. Then Moses was angry with them. 21And after this, they gathered it each morning, each according to his needs; and when the sun became hot, it melted. 22And on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each person; and the leaders of the congregation came and reported this to Moses. 23And he told them, “This is what the LORD has said, ‘Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the LORD: bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and whatever remains, lay it up to be kept until the morning.’” 24And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses said; and it did not become odious, nor were there any maggots in it. 25And Moses said, “Eat that today; for today is a Sabbath unto the LORD: today you shall not find it in the field. 26Six days you shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the Sabbath, there shall be none.” 27And still, some went out on the seventh day to gather, and they found none. 28And the LORD said to Moses, “How long do you refuse to follow My instructions and My commands? 29Consider that the LORD has given you the Sabbath, that is why He gives you on the sixth day bread enough two days. Remain in your tents; let no one go out on the seventh day.” 30So the people rested on the seventh day. 31And the house of Israel called it “Manna.” It was like coriander seed, but white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey. 32And Moses said, “This is what the LORD commands, ‘Fill an omer with it to be kept for your generations to come; so that they may see the bread with which I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you out of Egypt.’” 33And Moses said to Aaron, “Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna in it, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.” 34,So Aaron laid it up with the tablets of the testimony, to be kept as the LORD commanded Moses. 35And the Israelites ate manna for forty years. Until they came to a land inhabited, they ate manna - until they came unto the land of Canaan, where they would settle. 36Now an omer is one tenth of an ephah.
