<V 93:1>A Psalm of David himself. The Fourth Sabbath. The Lord is the God of retribution. The God of retribution acts in order to deliver. O LORD, God of vengeance, O God of vengeance, shine forth! The LORD is a God who avenges. O God who avenges, shine forth.
<V 93:2>Lift yourself up, for you judge the earth. Repay the arrogant with retribution. Rise up, O judge of the earth; repay to the proud what they deserve! Rise up, Judge of the earth; pay back to the proud what they deserve.
<V 93:3>How long will sinners, O Lord, how long will sinners glory? O LORD, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult? How long, LORD, will the wicked, how long will the wicked be jubilant?
<V 93:4>How long will they utter and speak iniquity? How long will all who work injustice speak out? They pour out their arrogant words; all the evildoers boast. They pour out arrogant words; all the evildoers are full of boasting.
<V 93:5>They have humiliated your people, O Lord, and they have harassed your inheritance. They crush your people, O LORD, and afflict your heritage. They crush your people, LORD; they oppress your inheritance.
<V 93:6>They have executed the widow and the new arrival, and they have slaughtered the orphan. They kill the widow and the sojourner, and murder the fatherless; They slay the widow and the foreigner; they murder the fatherless.
<V 93:7>And they have said, “The Lord will not see, nor will the God of Jacob understand.” and they say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob does not perceive.” They say, “The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice.”
<V 93:8>Understand, you senseless ones among the people. And be wise at last, you foolish ones. Understand, O dullest of the people! Fools, when will you be wise? Take notice, you senseless ones among the people; you fools, when will you become wise?
<V 93:9>He who formed the ear, will he not hear? And he who forged the eye, does he not look closely? He who planted the ear, does he not hear? He who formed the eye, does he not see? Does he who fashioned the ear not hear? Does he who formed the eye not see?
<V 93:10>He who chastises nations, he who teaches man knowledge, will he not rebuke? He who disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke? He who teaches man knowledge— Does he who disciplines nations not punish? Does he who teaches mankind lack knowledge?
<V 93:11>The Lord knows the thoughts of men: that these are in vain. the LORD—knows the thoughts of man, that they are but a breath. The LORD knows all human plans; he knows that they are futile.
<V 93:12>Blessed is the man whom you will instruct, O Lord. And you will teach him from your law. Blessed is the man whom you discipline, O LORD, and whom you teach out of your law, Blessed is the one you discipline, LORD, the one you teach from your law;
<V 93:13>So may you soothe him from the evil days, until a pit may be dug for sinners. to give him rest from days of trouble, until a pit is dug for the wicked. you grant them relief from days of trouble, till a pit is dug for the wicked.
<V 93:14>For the Lord will not drive away his people, and he will not abandon his inheritance, For the LORD will not forsake his people; he will not abandon his heritage; For the LORD will not reject his people; he will never forsake his inheritance.
<V 93:15>even until the time when justice is being converted into judgment, and when those who are close to justice are all those who are upright of heart. for justice will return to the righteous, and all the upright in heart will follow it. Judgment will again be founded on righteousness, and all the upright in heart will follow it.
<V 93:16>Who will rise up with me against the malignant? Or who will stand with me against the workers of iniquity? Who rises up for me against the wicked? Who stands up for me against evildoers? Who will rise up for me against the wicked? Who will take a stand for me against evildoers?
<V 93:17>Except that the Lord assisted me, my soul almost would have dwelt in Hell. If the LORD had not been my help, my soul would soon have lived in the land of silence. Unless the LORD had given me help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
<V 93:18>If ever I said, “My foot is slipping,” then your mercy, O Lord, assisted me. When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O LORD, held me up. When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD, supported me.
<V 93:19>According to the multitude of my sorrows in my heart, your consolations have given joy to my soul. When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.
<V 93:20>Does the seat of iniquity adhere to you, you who contrive hardship within a commandment? Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute? Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?
<V 93:21>They will hunt down the soul of the just, and they will condemn innocent blood. They band together against the life of the righteous and condemn the innocent to death. The wicked band together against the righteous and condemn the innocent to death.
<V 93:22>And the Lord has been made into a refuge for me, and my God into the assistance of my hope. But the LORD has become my stronghold, and my God the rock of my refuge. But the LORD has become my fortress, and my God the rock in whom I take refuge.
<V 93:23>And he will repay them their iniquity, and he will destroy them in their malice. The Lord our God will utterly destroy them. He will bring back on them their iniquity and wipe them out for their wickedness; the LORD our God will wipe them out. He will repay them for their sins and destroy them for their wickedness; the LORD our God will destroy them.
