1 For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David, a Song. Let God arise, let his enemies be scattered; let them also that hate him flee before him. God shall arise, his enemies shall be scattered; and those who hate him shall flee before him! For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. A song. May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.
2 As smoke is driven away, so drive them away: as wax melteth before the fire, so let the wicked perish at the presence of God. As smoke is driven away, so you shall drive them away; as wax melts before fire, so the wicked shall perish before God! May you blow them away like smoke— as wax melts before the fire, may the wicked perish before God.
3 But let the righteous be glad; let them exult before God: yea, let them rejoice with gladness. But the righteous shall be glad; they shall exult before God; they shall be jubilant with joy! But may the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful.
4 Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: cast up a highway for him that rideth through the deserts; his name is JAH; and exult ye before him. Sing to God, sing praises to his name; lift up a song to him who rides through the deserts; his name is the LORD; exult before him! Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD.
5 A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation. Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
6 God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out the prisoners into prosperity: but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. God settles the solitary in a home; he leads out the prisoners to prosperity, but the rebellious dwell in a parched land. God sets the lonely in families, he leads out the prisoners with singing; but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.
7 O God, when thou wentest forth before thy people, when thou didst march through the wilderness; Selah O God, when you went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness, Selah When you, God, went out before your people, when you marched through the wilderness,
8 The earth trembled, the heavens also dropped at the presence of God: even yon Sinai trembled at the presence of God, the God of Israel. the earth quaked, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel. the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain, before God, the One of Sinai, before God, the God of Israel.
9 Thou, O God, didst send a plentiful rain, thou didst confirm thine inheritance, when it was weary. Rain in abundance, O God, you shed abroad; you restored your inheritance as it languished; You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance.
10 Thy congregation dwelt therein: thou, O God, didst prepare of thy goodness for the poor. your flock found a dwelling in it; in your goodness, O God, you provided for the needy. Your people settled in it, and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor.
11 The Lord giveth the word: the women that publish the tidings are a great host. The Lord gives the word; the women who announce the news are a great host: The Lord announces the word, and the women who proclaim it are a mighty throng:
12 Kings of armies flee, they flee: and she that tarrieth at home divideth the spoil. “The kings of the armies—they flee, they flee!” The women at home divide the spoil— “Kings and armies flee in haste; the women at home divide the plunder.
13 Will ye lie among the sheepfolds, as the wings of a dove covered with silver, and her pinions with yellow gold? though you men lie among the sheepfolds— the wings of a dove covered with silver, its pinions with shimmering gold. Even while you sleep among the sheep pens, the wings of my dove are sheathed with silver, its feathers with shining gold.”
14 When the Almighty scattered kings therein, it was as when it snoweth in Zalmon. When the Almighty scatters kings there, let snow fall on Zalmon. When the Almighty scattered the kings in the land, it was like snow fallen on Mount Zalmon.
15 A mountain of God is the mountain of Bashan; an high mountain is the mountain of Bashan. O mountain of God, mountain of Bashan; O many-peaked mountain, mountain of Bashan! Mount Bashan, majestic mountain, Mount Bashan, rugged mountain,
16 Why look ye askance, ye high mountains, at the mountain which God hath desired for his abode? yea, the LORD will dwell in it for ever. Why do you look with hatred, O many-peaked mountain, at the mount that God desired for his abode, yes, where the LORD will dwell forever? why gaze in envy, you rugged mountain, at the mountain where God chooses to reign, where the LORD himself will dwell forever?
17 The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands upon thousands: the Lord is among them, as in Sinai, in the sanctuary. The chariots of God are twice ten thousand, thousands upon thousands; the Lord is among them; Sinai is now in the sanctuary. The chariots of God are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands; the Lord has come from Sinai into his sanctuary.
18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led thy captivity captive; thou hast received gifts among men, yea, among the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell with them. You ascended on high, leading a host of captives in your train and receiving gifts among men, even among the rebellious, that the LORD God may dwell there. When you ascended on high, you took many captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious— that you, LORD God, might dwell there.
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily beareth our burden, even the God who is our salvation. Selah Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up; God is our salvation. Selah Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.
20 God is unto us a God of deliverances; and unto JEHOVAH the Lord belong the issues from death. Our God is a God of salvation, and to GOD, the Lord, belong deliverances from death. Our God is a God who saves; from the Sovereign LORD comes escape from death.
21 But God shall smite through the head of his enemies, the hairy scalp of such an one as goeth on still in his guiltiness. But God will strike the heads of his enemies, the hairy crown of him who walks in his guilty ways. Surely God will crush the heads of his enemies, the hairy crowns of those who go on in their sins.
22 The Lord said, I will bring again from Bashan, I will bring them again from the depths of the sea: The Lord said, “I will bring them back from Bashan, I will bring them back from the depths of the sea, The Lord says, “I will bring them from Bashan; I will bring them from the depths of the sea,
23 That thou mayest dip thy foot in blood, that the tongue of thy dogs may have its portion from thine enemies. that you may strike your feet in their blood, that the tongues of your dogs may have their portion from the foe.” that your feet may wade in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share.”
24 They have seen thy goings, O God, even the goings of my God, my King, into the sanctuary. Your procession is seen, O God, the procession of my God, my King, into the sanctuary— Your procession, God, has come into view, the procession of my God and King into the sanctuary.
25 The singers went before, the minstrels followed after, in the midst of the damsels playing with timbrels. the singers in front, the musicians last, between them virgins playing tambourines: In front are the singers, after them the musicians; with them are the young women playing the timbrels.
26 Bless ye God in the congregations, even the Lord, ye that are of the fountain of Israel. “Bless God in the great congregation, the LORD, O you who are of Israel’s fountain!” Praise God in the great congregation; praise the LORD in the assembly of Israel.
27 There is little Benjamin their ruler, the princes of Judah and their council, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. There is Benjamin, the least of them, in the lead, the princes of Judah in their throng, the princes of Zebulun, the princes of Naphtali. There is the little tribe of Benjamin, leading them, there the great throng of Judah’s princes, and there the princes of Zebulun and of Naphtali.
28 Thy God hath commanded thy strength: strengthen, O God, that which thou hast wrought for us. Summon your power, O God, the power, O God, by which you have worked for us. Summon your power, God; show us your strength, our God, as you have done before.
29 Because of thy temple at Jerusalem kings shall bring presents unto thee. Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings shall bear gifts to you. Because of your temple at Jerusalem kings will bring you gifts.
30 Rebuke the wild beast of the reeds, the multitude of the bulls, with the calves of the peoples, trampling under foot the pieces of silver; he hath scattered the peoples that delight in war. Rebuke the beasts that dwell among the reeds, the herd of bulls with the calves of the peoples. Trample underfoot those who lust after tribute; scatter the peoples who delight in war. Rebuke the beast among the reeds, the herd of bulls among the calves of the nations. Humbled, may the beast bring bars of silver. Scatter the nations who delight in war.
31 Princes shall come out of Egypt; Ethiopia shall haste to stretch out her hands unto God. Nobles shall come from Egypt; Cush shall hasten to stretch out her hands to God. Envoys will come from Egypt; Cush will submit herself to God.
32 Sing unto God, ye kingdoms of the earth; O sing praises unto the Lord; Selah O kingdoms of the earth, sing to God; sing praises to the Lord, Selah Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth, sing praise to the Lord,
33 To him that rideth upon the heavens of heavens, which are of old; lo, he uttereth his voice, and that a mighty voice. to him who rides in the heavens, the ancient heavens; behold, he sends out his voice, his mighty voice. to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens, who thunders with mighty voice.
34 Ascribe ye strength unto God: his excellency is over Israel, and his strength is in the skies. Ascribe power to God, whose majesty is over Israel, and whose power is in the skies. Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the heavens.
35 O God, thou art terrible out of thy holy places: the God of Israel, he giveth strength and power unto his people. Blessed be God. Awesome is God from his sanctuary; the God of Israel—he is the one who gives power and strength to his people. Blessed be God! You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people. Praise be to God!
