<V 43:1>Unto the end. To the sons of Korah, toward understanding. O God, we have heard with our ears, our fathers have told us, what deeds you performed in their days, in the days of old: For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A maskil. We have heard it with our ears, O God; our ancestors have told us what you did in their days, in days long ago.
<V 43:2>We have heard, O God, with our own ears. Our fathers have announced to us the work that you wrought in their days and in the days of antiquity. you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free; With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish.
<V 43:3>Your hand dispersed the Gentiles, and you transplanted them. You afflicted a people, and you expelled them. for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them. It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them.
<V 43:4>For they did not take possession of the land by their sword, and their own arm did not save them. But your right hand and your arm, and the light of your countenance did so, because you were pleased with them. You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob! You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob.
<V 43:5>You yourself are my king and my God, who commands the salvation of Jacob. Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes.
<V 43:6>With you, we will brandish a horn before our enemies; and in your name, we will spurn those rising up against us. For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me. I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory;
<V 43:7>For I will not hope in my bow, and my sword will not save me. But you have saved us from our foes and have put to shame those who hate us. but you give us victory over our enemies, you put our adversaries to shame.
<V 43:8>For you have saved us from those who afflict us, and you have bewildered those who hate us. In God we have boasted continually, and we will give thanks to your name forever. Selah In God we make our boast all day long, and we will praise your name forever.
<V 43:9>In God, we will give praise all day long; and in your name, we will confess forever. But you have rejected us and disgraced us and have not gone out with our armies. But now you have rejected and humbled us; you no longer go out with our armies.
<V 43:10>But now, you have rejected and bewildered us, and you will not go forth with our armies, O God. You have made us turn back from the foe, and those who hate us have gotten spoil. You made us retreat before the enemy, and our adversaries have plundered us.
<V 43:11>You have turned our back to our enemies, and those who hated us have plundered for themselves. You have made us like sheep for slaughter and have scattered us among the nations. You gave us up to be devoured like sheep and have scattered us among the nations.
<V 43:12>You have given us over like sheep for food. You have scattered us among the Gentiles. You have sold your people for a trifle, demanding no high price for them. You sold your people for a pittance, gaining nothing from their sale.
<V 43:13>You have sold your people without a price, and no great number was exchanged for them. You have made us the taunt of our neighbors, the derision and scorn of those around us. You have made us a reproach to our neighbors, the scorn and derision of those around us.
<V 43:14>You have set us as a disgrace to our neighbors, a scoff and a derision to those who are around us. You have made us a byword among the nations, a laughingstock among the peoples. You have made us a byword among the nations; the peoples shake their heads at us.
<V 43:15>You have set us as a parable among the Gentiles, a shaking of the head among the peoples. All day long my disgrace is before me, and shame has covered my face I live in disgrace all day long, and my face is covered with shame
<V 43:16>All day long my shame is before me, and the confusion of my face has covered me, at the sound of the taunter and reviler, at the sight of the enemy and the avenger. at the taunts of those who reproach and revile me, because of the enemy, who is bent on revenge.
<V 43:17>before the voice of the reproacher and the commentator, before the face of the adversary and the pursuer. All this has come upon us, though we have not forgotten you, and we have not been false to your covenant. All this came upon us, though we had not forgotten you; we had not been false to your covenant.
<V 43:18>All these things have come upon us, yet we have not forgotten you, and we have not acted unjustly in your covenant. Our heart has not turned back, nor have our steps departed from your way; Our hearts had not turned back; our feet had not strayed from your path.
<V 43:19>And our heart has not turned back. And you have not diverted our steps from your way. yet you have broken us in the place of jackals and covered us with the shadow of death. But you crushed us and made us a haunt for jackals; you covered us over with deep darkness.
<V 43:20>For you humbled us in a place of affliction, and the shadow of death has covered us. If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god, If we had forgotten the name of our God or spread out our hands to a foreign god,
<V 43:21>If we have forgotten the name of our God, and if we have extended our hands to a foreign god, would not God discover this? For he knows the secrets of the heart. would not God have discovered it, since he knows the secrets of the heart?
<V 43:22>will not God find this out? For he knows the secrets of the heart. For, because of you, we are being killed all day long. We are considered as sheep for the slaughter. Yet for your sake we are killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered. Yet for your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
<V 43:23>Rise up. Why do you fall asleep, O Lord? Rise up, and do not reject us in the end. Awake! Why are you sleeping, O Lord? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever! Awake, Lord! Why do you sleep? Rouse yourself! Do not reject us forever.
<V 43:24>Why do you turn your face away, and why do you forget our needfulness and our tribulation? Why do you hide your face? Why do you forget our affliction and oppression? Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression?
<V 43:25>For our soul has been humbled into the dust. Our belly has been bound to the earth. For our soul is bowed down to the dust; our belly clings to the ground. We are brought down to the dust; our bodies cling to the ground.
<V 43:26>Rise up, O Lord. Help us and redeem us, because of your name. Rise up; come to our help! Redeem us for the sake of your steadfast love! Rise up and help us; rescue us because of your unfailing love.
