LORD, hear my just plea! Pay attention to my cry! Listen to my prayer, since it does not come from lying lips. Hear a just cause, O LORD; attend to my cry! Give ear to my prayer from lips free of deceit! A prayer of David. Hear me, LORD, my plea is just; listen to my cry. Hear my prayer— it does not rise from deceitful lips.
Justice for me will come from your presence; your eyes see what is right. From your presence let my vindication come! Let your eyes behold the right! Let my vindication come from you; may your eyes see what is right.
When you probe my heart, and examine me at night; when you refine me, you will find nothing wrong, for I have determined that I will not transgress with my mouth. You have tried my heart, you have visited me by night, you have tested me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. Though you probe my heart, though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil; my mouth has not transgressed.
As for the ways of mankind, I have, according to the words of your lips, avoided the ways of the violent. With regard to the works of man, by the word of your lips I have avoided the ways of the violent. Though people tried to bribe me, I have kept myself from the ways of the violent through what your lips have commanded.
Because my steps have held fast to your paths, my footsteps have not faltered. My steps have held fast to your paths; my feet have not slipped. My steps have held to your paths; my feet have not stumbled.
I call upon you, for you will answer me, God. Listen closely to me and hear my prayer. I call upon you, for you will answer me, O God; incline your ear to me; hear my words. I call on you, my God, for you will answer me; turn your ear to me and hear my prayer.
Show forth your gracious love, save those who take refuge in you from those who rebel against your sovereign power. Wondrously show your steadfast love, O Savior of those who seek refuge from their adversaries at your right hand. Show me the wonders of your great love, you who save by your right hand those who take refuge in you from their foes.
Protect me as the most precious part of the eye; hide me under the shadow of your wings Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings
from the wicked who have afflicted me, from my enemies who have surrounded me. from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. from the wicked who are out to destroy me, from my mortal enemies who surround me.
They are imprisoned by their own prosperity, they have boasted proudly with their mouth. They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. They close up their callous hearts, and their mouths speak with arrogance.
Now they have encircled our paths and are determined to cast us down to the ground. They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. They have tracked me down, they now surround me, with eyes alert, to throw me to the ground.
Like a lion they desire to rip us to pieces, like a young lion waiting in ambush. He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. They are like a lion hungry for prey, like a fierce lion crouching in cover.
Arise, LORD, confront them, bring them to their knees! Deliver me from the wicked by your sword— Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, Rise up, LORD, confront them, bring them down; with your sword rescue me from the wicked.
from men, LORD, by your hand— from men who belong to this world, whose reward is only in this life. But as for your treasured ones, may their stomachs be full, may their children have an abundance, and may they leave wealth to their offspring. from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. By your hand save me from such people, LORD, from those of this world whose reward is in this life. May what you have stored up for the wicked fill their bellies; may their children gorge themselves on it, and may there be leftovers for their little ones.
But as for me, justified, I will behold your face; when I awake, your presence will satisfy me. As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness. As for me, I will be vindicated and will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness.
