1	מִ֭שְׁלֵי שְׁלֹמֹ֣ה בֶן־ דָּוִ֑ד מֶ֝֗לֶךְ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃	The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:	The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel:
2	לָדַ֣עַת חָכְמָ֣ה וּמוּסָ֑ר לְ֝הָבִ֗ין אִמְרֵ֥י בִינָֽה׃	To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,	for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight;
3	לָ֭קַחַת מוּסַ֣ר הַשְׂכֵּ֑ל צֶ֥דֶק וּ֝מִשְׁפָּ֗ט וּמֵישָׁרִֽים׃	to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;	for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair;
4	לָתֵ֣ת לִפְתָאיִ֣ם עָרְמָ֑ה לְ֝נַ֗עַר דַּ֣עַת וּמְזִמָּֽה׃	to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth—	for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young—
5	יִשְׁמַ֣ע חָ֭כָם וְי֣וֹסֶף לֶ֑קַח וְ֝נָב֗וֹן תַּחְבֻּל֥וֹת יִקְנֶֽה׃	Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,	let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance—
6	לְהָבִ֣ין מָ֭שָׁל וּמְלִיצָ֑ה דִּבְרֵ֥י חֲ֝כָמִ֗ים וְחִידֹתָֽם׃	to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles.	for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.
7	יִרְאַ֣ת יְ֭הוָה רֵאשִׁ֣ית דָּ֑עַת חָכְמָ֥ה וּ֝מוּסָ֗ר אֱוִילִ֥ים בָּֽזוּ׃ פ	The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.	The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
8	שְׁמַ֣ע בְּ֭נִי מוּסַ֣ר אָבִ֑יךָ וְאַל־ תִּ֝טֹּ֗שׁ תּוֹרַ֥ת אִמֶּֽךָ׃	Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching,	Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9	כִּ֤י ׀ לִוְיַ֤ת חֵ֓ן הֵ֬ם לְרֹאשֶׁ֑ךָ וַ֝עֲנָקִ֗ים לְגַרְגְּרֹתֶֽיךָ׃	for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.	They are a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
10	בְּנִ֡י אִם־ יְפַתּ֥וּךָ חַ֝טָּאִ֗ים אַל־ תֹּבֵֽא׃	My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent.	My son, if sinful men entice you, do not give in to them.
11	אִם־ יֹאמְרוּ֮ לְכָ֪ה אִ֫תָּ֥נוּ נֶאֶרְבָ֥ה לְדָ֑ם נִצְפְּנָ֖ה לְנָקִ֣י חִנָּֽם׃	If they say, “Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us ambush the innocent without reason;	If they say, “Come along with us; let’s lie in wait for innocent blood, let’s ambush some harmless soul;
12	נִ֭בְלָעֵם כִּשְׁא֣וֹל חַיִּ֑ים וּ֝תְמִימִ֗ים כְּי֣וֹרְדֵי בֽוֹר׃	like Sheol let us swallow them alive, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;	let’s swallow them alive, like the grave, and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
