1 “For the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a master of a house, who went out in the morning to hire workmen for his vineyard. “For the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard.
2 And having agreed with the workmen for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. After agreeing with the laborers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard.
3 And having gone out about the third hour, he saw others standing in the marketplace idle. And going out about the third hour he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, “About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing.
4 And to those ones he said, ‘You⁺ also go into the vineyard, and I will give you⁺ whatever may be right.’ and to them he said, ‘You go into the vineyard too, and whatever is right I will give you.’ He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’
5 And they went away. And having gone out again about the sixth and ninth hour, he did likewise. So they went. Going out again about the sixth hour and the ninth hour, he did the same. So they went. “He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing.
6 And about the eleventh, having gone out, he found others standing, and he says to them, ‘Why do you⁺ stand here all the day idle?’ And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing. And he said to them, ‘Why do you stand here idle all day?’ About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’
7 They say to him, ‘Because no one hired us.’ He says to them, ‘You⁺ also go into the vineyard.’ They said to him, ‘Because no one has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘You go into the vineyard too.’ “’Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. “He said to them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard.’
8 And evening having come, the master of the vineyard says to his foreman, ‘Call the workmen and pay them the wages, having begun from the last, up to the first.’ And when evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the laborers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last, up to the first.’ “When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’
9 And having come, the ones of about the eleventh hour each received a denarius. And when those hired about the eleventh hour came, each of them received a denarius. “The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius.
10 And having come, the first thought that they will receive more. But they themselves also received each a denarius. Now when those hired first came, they thought they would receive more, but each of them also received a denarius. So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius.
11 And having received it, they were grumbling against the master of the house, And on receiving it they grumbled at the master of the house, When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner.
12 saying, ‘These, the last, worked one hour, and you made them equal to us, the ones having borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ saying, ‘These last worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the day and the scorching heat.’ These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’
13 And answering one of them, he said, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me on a denarius? But he replied to one of them, ‘Friend, I am doing you no wrong. Did you not agree with me for a denarius? “But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius?
14 Take what is yours and go. But I want to give to this last one as to you also. Take what belongs to you and go. I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you. Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you.
15 Or is it not lawful for me to do what I want with what is mine? Or is your eye evil because I am good?’ Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?’ Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’
16 Thus the last will be first, and the first, last.” So the last will be first, and the first last.” “So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
17 And Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took aside the twelve disciples by themselves, and on the way He said to them, And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them,
18 “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn Him to death. “See, we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. 19 And they will betray Him to the Gentiles to mock and to flog and to crucify, and on the third day He will be raised up.” and deliver him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Him with her sons, kneeling down and asking something from Him. Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him.
21 And He said to her, “What do you want?” She says to Him, “Say that these two sons of mine shall sit, one at Your right hand and one at Your left hand, in Your kingdom.” And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Say that these two sons of mine are to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” “What is it you want?” he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.”
22 And answering, Jesus said, “You⁺ do not know what you⁺ are asking. Are you⁺ able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They say to Him, “We are able.” Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink?” They said to him, “We are able.” “You don’t know what you are asking,” Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?” “We can,” they answered.
23 He says to them, “Indeed you⁺ will drink My cup, but to sit at My right hand and at My left, this is not Mine to give, but to those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.” He said to them, “You will drink my cup, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.”
24 And having heard, the ten were indignant about the two brothers. And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers.
25 But Jesus, having summoned them, said, “You⁺ know that the rulers of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them, and the great ones exercise authority over them. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 26 It will not be this way among you⁺. But whoever may want to become great among you⁺, he will be your⁺ servant; It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
27 and whoever may want to be first among you⁺, he will be your⁺ slave— and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—

30 And behold, two blind men sitting beside the road, having heard that Jesus is passing by, cried out, saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” And behold, there were two blind men sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was passing by, they cried out, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
31 And the crowd rebuked them, that they should be silent. But they cried out all the more, saying, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd rebuked them, telling them to be silent, but they cried out all the more, “Lord, have mercy on us, Son of David!” The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”
32 And having stood, Jesus called them and said, “What do you⁺ want that I may do for you⁺?” And stopping, Jesus called them and said, “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus stopped and called them. “What do you want me to do for you?” he asked.
33 They say to Him, “Lord, that our eyes may be opened.” They said to him, “Lord, let our eyes be opened.” “Lord,” they answered, “we want our sight.”
34 And having been moved with compassion, Jesus touched their eyes, and immediately they received their sight, and they followed Him. And Jesus in pity touched their eyes, and immediately they recovered their sight and followed him. Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.
