1	After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals.
2	Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Hebrew called Bethesda, having five porches.	Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, in Aramaic called Bethesda, which has five roofed colonnades.	Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.
3	In these were lying a multitude of those ailing, blind, lame, and withered.	In these lay a multitude of invalids—blind, lame, and paralyzed.	Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed.

5	And a certain man was there, being thirty and eight years in his ailment.	One man was there who had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.	One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.
6	Jesus, having seen this one lying and having known that he has been a long time already, says to him, “Do you want to become well?”	When Jesus saw him lying there and knew that he had already been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healed?”	When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?”
7	The one ailing answered Him, “Sir, I do not have a man, that when the water might be stirred, he might put me into the pool; and while I am going, another goes down before me.”	The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, and while I am going another steps down before me.”	“Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.”
8	Jesus says to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”	Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”	Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.”
9	And immediately the man became well, and he took up his mat and was walking. And it was the Sabbath on that day.	And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was the Sabbath.	At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked. The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,
10	Therefore the Jews were saying to the one having been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your mat.”	So the Jews said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.”	and so the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”
11	But he answered them, “The One having made me well, that One said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”	But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’”	But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ “
12	Therefore they asked him, “Who is the man having said to you, ‘Take it up and walk’?”	They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your bed and walk’?”	So they asked him, “Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?”
13	But the one having been healed did not know who it is, for Jesus moved away, a crowd being in the place.	Now the man who had been healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, as there was a crowd in the place.	The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there.
14	After these things Jesus finds him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well. Sin no more, so that something worse might not happen to you.”	Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse may happen to you.”	Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, “See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”
15	The man went away and declared to the Jews that Jesus is the One having made him well.	The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.	The man went away and told the Jewish leaders that it was Jesus who had made him well.
16	And because of this, the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.	And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.	So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.
17	But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”	But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”	In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
18	Therefore because of this, the Jews were seeking more to kill Him, because not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was also calling God His own Father, making Himself equal to God.	This was why the Jews were seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.	For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God.
19	Therefore Jesus answered and was saying to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you⁺, the Son is able to do nothing from Himself, if not anything He may see the Father doing; for whatever He may do, these things the Son also does likewise.	So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.	Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
20	For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all things that He Himself does. And He will show Him greater works than these, so that you⁺ may marvel.	For the Father loves the Son and shows him all that he himself is doing. And greater works than these will he show him, so that you may marvel.	For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.
21	For just as the Father raises the dead and makes alive, thus also the Son makes alive whom He wills.	For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he will.	For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it.
22	For the Father judges no one, but He has given all judgment to the Son,	For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son,	Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,
23	so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. The one not honoring the Son does not honor the Father, the One having sent Him.	that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.	that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.
24	Truly, truly, I say to you⁺ that the one hearing My word and believing the One having sent Me has eternal life and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.	Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.	“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.
25	Truly, truly, I say to you⁺ that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those having heard will live.	“Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming, and is now here, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live.	Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.
26	For just as the Father has life in Himself, so also He gave to the Son to have life in Himself.	For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.	For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself.
27	And He gave Him authority to do judgment, because He is the Son of Man.	And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.	And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man.
28	Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming in which all those in the tombs will hear His voice,	Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice	“Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice
29	and they will come out—those having done good to the resurrection of life, and those having practiced evil to the resurrection of judgment.	and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.	and come out—those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
30	I am able to do nothing from Myself. Just as I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My will, but the will of the One having sent Me.	“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.	By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me.
31	If I testify concerning Myself, My testimony is not true.	If I alone bear witness about myself, my testimony is not true.	“If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.
32	It is another testifying concerning Me, and I know that the testimony that He testifies concerning Me is true.	There is another who bears witness about me, and I know that the testimony that he bears about me is true.	There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that his testimony about me is true.
33	You⁺ have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.	You sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.	“You have sent to John and he has testified to the truth.
34	Now I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things so that you⁺ may be saved.	Not that the testimony that I receive is from man, but I say these things so that you may be saved.	Not that I accept human testimony; but I mention it that you may be saved.
35	He was the lamp burning and shining, and you⁺ were willing to exult for an hour in his light.	He was a burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.	John was a lamp that burned and gave light, and you chose for a time to enjoy his light.
36	But I have testimony greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given to Me so that I should complete them, the same works that I do, testify concerning Me that the Father has sent Me.	But the testimony that I have is greater than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I am doing, bear witness about me that the Father has sent me.	“I have testimony weightier than that of John. For the works that the Father has given me to finish—the very works that I am doing—testify that the Father has sent me.
37	And the One having sent Me, the Father Himself, has testified concerning Me. You⁺ have neither heard His voice at any time, nor have you⁺ seen His form.	And the Father who sent me has himself borne witness about me. His voice you have never heard, his form you have never seen,	And the Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
38	And you⁺ do not have His word remaining in you⁺, for you⁺ do not believe Him whom He sent.	and you do not have his word abiding in you, for you do not believe the one whom he has sent.	nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent.
39	You⁺ search the Scriptures because you⁺ think to have eternal life in them, and these are they testifying concerning Me;	You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,	You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me,
40	and you⁺ are not willing to come to Me so that you⁺ may have life.	yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.	yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41	I do not receive glory from men,	I do not receive glory from people.	“I do not accept glory from human beings,
42	but I have known you⁺, that you⁺ do not have the love of God in yourselves.	But I know that you do not have the love of God within you.	but I know you. I know that you do not have the love of God in your hearts.
43	I have come in the name of My Father, and you⁺ do not receive Me; if another should come in his own name, you⁺ will receive him.	I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.	I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44	How are you⁺ able to believe, receiving glory from one another, and you⁺ do not seek the glory that is from the only God?	How can you believe, when you receive glory from one another and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?	How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?
45	Do not think that I will accuse you⁺ to the Father. There is the one accusing you⁺: Moses, in whom you⁺ have hoped.	Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you: Moses, on whom you have set your hope.	“But do not think I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, on whom your hopes are set.
46	For if you⁺ were believing Moses, you⁺ would have been believing Me; for he wrote concerning Me.	For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote of me.	If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47	But if you⁺ do not believe his writings, how will you⁺ believe My words?”	But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”	But since you do not believe what he wrote, how are you going to believe what I say?”
