1 Three days after, there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee; where the mother of Jesus was present. On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there,
2 as likewise Jesus and his disciples, who were all invited to the feast. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding.
3 now when the wine was out, the mother of Jesus said to him, they have no wine. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 Jesus answer'd her, woman, leave that affair to me, is not that my concern? And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” “Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 upon which his mother bid the servants do whatever he should order. His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 now there were six cisterns of stone plac'd there for the use of the Jews in their purifications, containing two or three firkins a-piece. Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.
7 these Jesus order'd the waiters to fill with water, so they filled them up to the brim. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water|; so they filled them to the brim.
8 now fill out, said he, and carry it to the steward of the feast, which accordingly they did. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,
9 as soon as the steward had tasted the water that was made wine, (for he did not know whence it came, but the servants who drew the water knew it,) he called the bridegroom, When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside
10 and said to him, 'tis usual to present the best wine first, and afterwards the worse, when the guests have drank pretty freely: but you have reserved the best wine to the last. and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 thus was the first miracle of Jesus wrought at Cana in Galilee, by which he displayed his power; and his disciples believed on him. This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, in company with his mother, his brethren, and his disciples: but they stay'd there only a few days. After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother and his brothers and his disciples, and they stayed there for a few days. After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
13 for the Jews passover being nigh, Jesus went up to Jerusalem, The Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover, Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
14 where he found in the temple those that sold oxen, sheep, and doves, besides the changers of money, who were sitting there. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the money-changers sitting there. In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves, and others sitting at tables exchanging money.
15 upon which he made a whip of small cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with their sheep, and oxen; and threw about the changers money, and over-set the tables; and said to the dove-sellers, And making a whip of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and oxen. And he poured out the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.
16 away with these things; make not my father's house a market-house. And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.” To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”
17 which put his disciples in mind of that passage, "my zeal for thine house does prey upon me." His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for your house will consume me.” His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”
18 whereupon the Jews said, what miracle can you show to justify your behaviour? So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” The Jews then responded to him, “What sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”
19 Jesus answered them, saying, destroy this temple, and within three days I will raise it up. Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”
20 to this said the Jews, forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? The Jews then said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will you raise it up in three days?” They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?”
21 but by the temple he meant his body. But he was speaking about the temple of his body. But the temple he had spoken of was his body.
22 and when he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembred that expression of his: and they believed the scripture, and what Jesus had said. When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said. Then they believed the scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now whilst he was in Jerusalem at the feast of the passover, many believed in him when they saw the miracles which he did. Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many believed in his name when they saw the signs that he was doing. Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name.
24 but Jesus did not trust his person with them, because he knew them all. But Jesus on his part did not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people.
25 and he did not want any information concerning man: for he knew of himself the secret of their hearts. and needed no one to bear witness about man, for he himself knew what was in man. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.
