1 And the word of YHWH came to Jeremiah a second time (and he was still shut up in the court of the guard), saying: The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard: While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the LORD came to him a second time:
2 “Thus says YHWH, who made the earth, YHWH who formed it to establish it—YHWH is His name: “Thus says the LORD who made the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it—the LORD is his name: “This is what the LORD says, he who made the earth, the LORD who formed it and established it—the LORD is his name:
3 Call to Me and I will answer you, and will show to you great and hidden things that you have not known. Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
4 For thus says YHWH, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah pulled down against the siege mounds and against the sword: For thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city and the houses of the kings of Judah that were torn down to make a defense against the siege mounds and against the sword: For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says about the houses in this city and the royal palaces of Judah that have been torn down to be used against the siege ramps and the sword
5 They are coming in to fight with the Chaldeans and to fill them with the carcasses of the men whom I will slay in My anger and in My fury, and for whom I have hidden My face from this city and over all their evil. They are coming in to fight against the Chaldeans and to fill them with the dead bodies of men whom I shall strike down in my anger and my wrath, for I have hidden my face from this city because of all their evil. in the fight with the Babylonians: ‘They will be filled with the dead bodies of the people I will slay in my anger and wrath. I will hide my face from this city because of all its wickedness.
6 Behold, I will bring to it health and healing; and I will heal them and will reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. Behold, I will bring to it health and healing, and I will heal them and reveal to them abundance of prosperity and security. “’Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security.
7 And I will turn back the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel, and I will rebuild them as at the first. I will restore the fortunes of Judah and the fortunes of Israel, and rebuild them as they were at first. I will bring Judah and Israel back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before.
8 And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will forgive all their iniquities by which they have sinned against Me and by which they have transgressed against Me. I will cleanse them from all the guilt of their sin against me, and I will forgive all the guilt of their sin and rebellion against me. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me.
9 And it will be for Me as a name of joy, as a praise and as an honor before all the nations of the earth, who will hear of all the good that I am doing for them, and they will dread and will tremble over all the goodness and over all the prosperity that I will provide for it. And this city shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and a glory before all the nations of the earth who shall hear of all the good that I do for them. They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.’
10 Thus says YHWH: Once again there will be heard in this place of which you⁺ say it is desolate without man and without beast, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate without man and without inhabitant and without beast, “Thus says the LORD: In this place of which you say, ‘It is a waste without man or beast,’ in the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are desolate, without man or inhabitant or beast, there shall be heard again “This is what the LORD says: ‘You say about this place, “It is a desolate waste, without people or animals.” Yet in the towns of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem that are deserted, inhabited by neither people nor animals, there will be heard once more
11 the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those saying—‘Praise YHWH of Hosts, for YHWH is good, for His loving devotion is forever’—of those bringing thank offerings into the house of YHWH. For I will turn back the captivity of the land as at the first, says YHWH. the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voices of those who sing, as they bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD: “‘Give thanks to the LORD of hosts, for the LORD is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!’ For I will restore the fortunes of the land as at first, says the LORD. the sounds of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom, and the voices of those who bring thank offerings to the house of the LORD, saying, “Give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is good; his love endures forever.” For I will restore the fortunes of the land as they were before,’ says the LORD.
12 Thus says YHWH of Hosts: Again in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all its cities, there will be a dwelling place of shepherds causing the flock to lie down. “Thus says the LORD of hosts: In this place that is waste, without man or beast, and in all of its cities, there shall again be habitations of shepherds resting their flocks. “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘In this place, desolate and without people or animals—in all its towns there will again be pastures for shepherds to rest their flocks.
13 In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negev, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, the flock will pass again under the hands of the one counting, says YHWH. In the cities of the hill country, in the cities of the Shephelah, and in the cities of the Negeb, in the land of Benjamin, the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, flocks shall again pass under the hands of the one who counts them, says the LORD. In the towns of the hill country, of the western foothills and of the Negev, in the territory of Benjamin, in the villages around Jerusalem and in the towns of Judah, flocks will again pass under the hand of the one who counts them,’ says the LORD.
14 Behold, the days are coming, a declaration of YHWH, when I will establish the good word that I have spoken to the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. “Behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. “’The days are coming,’ declares the LORD, ‘when I will fulfill the good promise I made to the people of Israel and Judah.
15 In those days and at that time I will cause to spring up for David a Branch of righteousness, and he will do justice and righteousness in the land. In those days and at that time I will cause a righteous Branch to spring up for David, and he shall execute justice and righteousness in the land. “’In those days and at that time I will make a righteous Branch sprout from David’s line; he will do what is just and right in the land.
16 In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will dwell in safety; and this is is what will be called unto her: YHWH Tsidqenu. In those days Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will dwell securely. And this is the name by which it will be called: ‘The LORD is our righteousness.’ In those days Judah will be saved and Jerusalem will live in safety. This is the name by which it will be called: The LORD Our Righteous Savior.’
17 For thus says YHWH: David will never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, “For thus says the LORD: David shall never lack a man to sit on the throne of the house of Israel, For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel,
18 nor will the priests, the Levites, lack a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meat offerings, and to do sacrifice all the days. and the Levitical priests shall never lack a man in my presence to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings, and to make sacrifices forever.” nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.’”
19 And came the word of YHWH to Jeremiah, saying: The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
20 “Thus says YHWH: If you⁺ can break My covenant with the day and My covenant with the night, so that there will not be day and night in their season, “Thus says the LORD: If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night will not come at their appointed time, “This is what the LORD says: ‘If you can break my covenant with the day and my covenant with the night, so that day and night no longer come at their appointed time,
21 then also My covenant may be broken with David My servant, from there being unto him a son reigning on his throne; so with the Levites, the priests, those ministering to Me. then also my covenant with David my servant may be broken, so that he shall not have a son to reign on his throne, and my covenant with the Levitical priests my ministers. then my covenant with David my servant—and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me—can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.
22 As the host of the heavens cannot be numbered and the sand of the sea cannot be measured, so will I multiply the seed of David My servant and the Levites ministering to Me. As the host of heaven cannot be numbered and the sands of the sea cannot be measured, so I will multiply the offspring of David my servant, and the Levitical priests who minister to me.” I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’”
23 And came the word of YHWH to Jeremiah, saying: The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: The word of the LORD came to Jeremiah:
24 “Have you not considered what this people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families that YHWH has chosen, and He has rejected them? Thus they have despised My people from being anymore a nation before them. “Have you not observed that these people are saying, ‘The LORD has rejected the two clans that he chose’? Thus they have despised my people so that they are no longer a nation in their sight. “Have you not noticed that these people are saying, ‘The LORD has rejected the two kingdoms he chose’? So they despise my people and no longer regard them as a nation.
25 Thus says YHWH: If My covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the fixed orders of the heavens and earth, Thus says the LORD: If I have not established my covenant with day and night and the fixed order of heaven and earth, This is what the LORD says: ‘If I have not made my covenant with day and night and established the laws of heaven and earth,
26 then the seed of Jacob and David My servant will I refuse to take from his seed to be reigning over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will turn back their captivity, and T will have mercy on them. then I will reject the offspring of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his offspring to rule over the offspring of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and will have mercy on them.” then I will reject the descendants of Jacob and David my servant and will not choose one of his sons to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. For I will restore their fortunes and have compassion on them.’”
