1 For the law, having a shadow of the good to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect those who draw near. For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. The law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming—not the realities themselves. For this reason it can never, by the same sacrifices repeated endlessly year after year, make perfect those who draw near to worship.
2 Or else wouldn’t they have ceased to be offered, because the worshipers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins? Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? Otherwise, would they not have stopped being offered? For the worshipers would have been cleansed once for all, and would no longer have felt guilty for their sins.
3 But in those sacrifices there is a yearly reminder of sins. But in these sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins.
4 For it is impossible that the blood of bulls and goats should take away sins. For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.
5 Therefore when he comes into the world, he says, “You didn’t desire sacrifice and offering, but you prepared a body for me. Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;
6 You had no pleasure in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin. in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased.
7 Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come (in the scroll of the book it is written of me) to do your will, O God.’” Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” Then I said, ‘Here I am—it is written about me in the scroll— I have come to do your will, my God.’”
8 Previously saying, “Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin you didn’t desire, neither had pleasure in them” (those which are offered according to the law), When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), First he said, “Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them|—though they were offered in accordance with the law.
9 then he has said, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He takes away the first, that he may establish the second, then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second. Then he said, “Here I am, I have come to do your will.” He sets aside the first to establish the second.
10 by which will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 Every priest indeed stands day by day serving and offering often the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins, And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.
12 but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down on the right hand of God, But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,
13 from that time waiting until his enemies are made the footstool of his feet. waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.
14 For by one offering he has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.
15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us, for after saying, And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying, The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:
16 “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days,” says the Lord, “I will put my laws on their heart, I will also write them on their mind;” then he says, “This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,” “This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.”
17 “I will remember their sins and their iniquities no more.” then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”
18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin. And where these have been forgiven, sacrifice for sin is no longer necessary.
19 Having therefore, brothers, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,
20 by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,
21 and having a great priest over God’s house, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, and since we have a great priest over the house of God,
22 let’s draw near with a true heart in fullness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and having our body washed with pure water, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.
23 let’s hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
24 Let’s consider how to provoke one another to love and good works, And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,
25 not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,
27 but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries. but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.
28 A man who disregards Moses’ law dies without compassion on the word of two or three witnesses. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
29 How much worse punishment do you think he will be judged worthy of who has trodden under foot the Son of God, and has counted the blood of the covenant with which he was sanctified an unholy thing, and has insulted the Spirit of grace? How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him who said, “Vengeance belongs to me. I will repay,” says the Lord. Again, “The Lord will judge his people.” For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “The Lord will judge his people.” For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
32 But remember the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great struggle with sufferings: But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened, you endured a hard struggle with sufferings, Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering.
33 partly, being exposed to both reproaches and oppressions, and partly, becoming partakers with those who were treated so. sometimes being publicly exposed to reproach and affliction, and sometimes being partners with those so treated. Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.
34 For you both had compassion on me in my chains and joyfully accepted the plundering of your possessions, knowing that you have for yourselves a better possession and an enduring one in the heavens. For you had compassion on those in prison, and you joyfully accepted the plundering of your property, since you knew that you yourselves had a better possession and an abiding one. You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.
35 Therefore don’t throw away your boldness, which has a great reward. Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
36 For you need endurance so that, having done the will of God, you may receive the promise. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
37 “In a very little while, he who comes will come and will not wait. For, “Yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; For, “In just a little while, he who is coming will come and will not delay.”
38 But the righteous one will live by faith. If he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” And, “But my righteous one will live by faith. And I take no pleasure in the one who shrinks back.”
39 But we are not of those who shrink back to destruction, but of those who have faith to the saving of the soul. But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who have faith and preserve their souls. But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.
