30 Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me with some of that red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom. And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.) He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom.)
31 Jacob said, “First, sell me your birthright.” Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”
32 Esau said, “Behold, I am about to die. What good is the birthright to me?” Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”
33 Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” He swore to him. He sold his birthright to Jacob. Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.
34 Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew. He ate and drank, rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew.
