1 And Abraham again took a wife, and her name was Keturah. Abraham took another wife, whose name was Keturah. Abraham had taken another wife, whose name was Keturah.
2 And she bore to him Zimran, and Jokshan, and Medan, and Midian, and Ishbak, and Shuah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak and Shuah.
3 And Jokshan begat Sheba and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurites, and Letushites, and Leummites. Jokshan fathered Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Asshurim, Letushim, and Leummim. Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan; the descendants of Dedan were the Ashurites, the Letushites and the Leummites.
4 And the sons of Midian were Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were sons of Keturah. The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanoch, Abida, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. The sons of Midian were Ephah, Epher, Hanok, Abida and Eldaah. All these were descendants of Keturah.
5 And Abraham gave all that he had to Isaac. Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. Abraham left everything he owned to Isaac.
6 And to the sons of the concubines unto Abraham, Abraham gave gifts, and he sent them away from Isaac his son while he was still living eastward, to the land of the east. But to the sons of his concubines Abraham gave gifts, and while he was still living he sent them away from his son Isaac, eastward to the east country. But while he was still living, he gave gifts to the sons of his concubines and sent them away from his son Isaac to the land of the east.
7 And these are the days of the years of the life of Abraham, which he lived: A hundred years and seventy years and five years. These are the days of the years of Abraham’s life, 175 years. Abraham lived a hundred and seventy-five years.
8 And Abraham expired, and he died at a good old age, old and satisfied, and he was gathered to his people. Abraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people. His descendants settled in the area from Havilah to Shur, near the eastern border of Egypt, as you go toward Ashur. And they lived in hostility toward all the tribes related to them.
19 And these are the generations of Isaac son of Abraham: Abraham begat Isaac, These are the generations of Isaac, Abraham’s son: Abraham fathered Isaac, This is the account of the family line of Abraham’s son Isaac. Abraham became the father of Isaac,
20 and Isaac was a son of forty years when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramaean from Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramaean, to him as wife. and Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Aramean of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Aramean, to be his wife. and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.
21 And Isaac entreated YHWH for his wife, because she was barren. And YHWH was entreated for him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. And Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant.
22 And the children struggled together within her, and she said, “If so, why this I?” And she went to inquire of YHWH. The children struggled together within her, and she said, “If it is thus, why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD. The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.
23 And YHWH said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from your bowels shall be separated; and one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.” And the LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.” The LORD said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”
24 And her days to give birth were fulfilled, and indeed there were twins in her womb. When her days to give birth were completed, behold, there were twins in her womb. When the time came for her to give birth, there were twin boys in her womb.
25 And the first came out ruddy all over, hairy like a cloak, and they called his name Esau. The first came out red, all his body like a hairy cloak, so they called his name Esau. The first to come out was red, and his whole body was like a hairy garment; so they named him Esau.
26 And afterward his brother came out, and his hand was grasping at the heel of Esau, and he called his name Jacob. And Isaac was a son of sixty years when she bore them. Afterward his brother came out with his hand holding Esau’s heel, so his name was called Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when she bore them. After this, his brother came out, with his hand grasping Esau’s heel; so he was named Jacob. Isaac was sixty years old when Rebekah gave birth to them.
27 And the boys grew, and Esau was a skillful man, a hunter and a man of the field; Jacob was a blameless man, dwelling in tents. When the boys grew up, Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field, while Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. The boys grew up, and Esau became a skillful hunter, a man of the open country, while Jacob was content to stay at home among the tents.
28 And Isaac loved Esau because of the game in his mouth, and Rebekah loved Jacob. Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game, but Rebekah loved Jacob. Isaac, who had a taste for wild game, loved Esau, but Rebekah loved Jacob.
29 And Jacob boiled a stew, and Esau came in from the field, and he was weary. Once when Jacob was cooking stew, Esau came in from the field, and he was exhausted. Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished.
30 And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me gulp down, please, from the red, the red, this one, for I am weary!” (Upon thus his name was called Edom.) And Esau said to Jacob, “Let me eat some of that red stew, for I am exhausted!” (Therefore his name was called Edom.) He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom.)
31 And Jacob said, “Sell—today—your birthright to me.” Jacob said, “Sell me your birthright now.” Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”
32 And Esau said, “Behold, I am going to die; and for what is this birthright to me?” Esau said, “I am about to die; of what use is a birthright to me?” “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”
33 And Jacob said, “Swear to me today.” And he swore to him, and sold his birthright to Jacob. Jacob said, “Swear to me now.” So he swore to him and sold his birthright to Jacob. But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.
34 And Jacob gave to Esau bread and stew of lentils, and he ate and he drank, and he arose and went; and Esau despised the birthright. Then Jacob gave Esau bread and lentil stew, and he ate and drank and rose and went his way. Thus Esau despised his birthright. Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.
