1 And as they spake vnto the people, the Priestes and the Captaine of the Temple, and the Sadduces came vpon them, And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people.
2 Taking it grieuously that they taught the people, and preached in Iesus Name the resurrection from the dead. greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead.
3 And they layde handes on them, and put them in holde, vntill the next day: for it was now euentide. And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day.
4 Howbeit, many of them which heard the word, beleeued, and the number of the men was about fiue thousand. But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand. But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand.
5 And it came to passe on the morow, that their rulers, and Elders, and Scribes, were gathered together at Hierusalem, On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, The next day the rulers, the elders and the teachers of the law met in Jerusalem.
6 And Annas the chiefe Priest, and Caiaphas, and Iohn, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the hie Priestes. with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. Annas the high priest was there, and so were Caiaphas, John, Alexander and others of the high priest’s family.
7 And whe they had set them before them, they asked, By what power, or in what Name haue ye done this? And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” They had Peter and John brought before them and began to question them: “By what power or what name did you do this?”
8 Then Peter ful of the holy Ghost, said vnto them, Ye rulers of the people, and Elders of Israel, Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!
9 For as much as we this day are examined of the good deede done to the impotent man, to wit, by what meanes he is made whole, if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed,
10 Be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Iesvs Christ of Nazareth, whom ye haue crucified, whome God raised againe from the dead, euen by him doth this man stand here before you, whole. let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
11 This is the stone cast aside of you builders which is become the head of the corner. This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone. Jesus is “’the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’
12 Neither is there saluation in any other: for among men there is giuen none other Name vnder heauen, whereby we must be saued. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”
13 Now when they sawe the boldnes of Peter and Iohn, and vnderstoode that they were vnlearned men and without knowledge, they marueiled, & knew them, that they had bin with Iesus: Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus. When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.
14 And beholding also the man which was healed standing with them, they had nothing to say against it. But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. But since they could see the man who had been healed standing there with them, there was nothing they could say.
15 Then they commaunded them to goe aside out of the Council, and conferred among themselues, But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they conferred with one another, So they ordered them to withdraw from the Sanhedrin and then conferred together.
16 Saying, What shall we doe to these men? For surely a manifest signe is done by them, and it is openly knowen to all them that dwell in Hierusalem: and we cannot denie it. saying, “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. “What are we going to do with these men?” they asked. “Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it.
17 But that it be noysed no farther among the people, let vs threaten and charge them, that they speake hencefoorth to no man in this Name. But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”
18 So they called them, and commaunded them, that in no wise they should speake or teach in the Name of Iesus. So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.
19 But Peter and Iohn answered vnto them, and said, Whether it be right in the sight of God, to obey you rather then God, iudge ye. But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges!
20 For we cannot but speake the things which we haue seene and heard. for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”
21 So they threatened them, and let them goe, and found nothing how to punish them, because of the people: for all men praised God for that which was done. And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened.
22 For the man was aboue fourtie yeeres olde, on whome this miracle of healing was shewed. For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old. For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.
23 Then assoone as they were let goe, they came to their felowes, and shewed all that the hie Priestes and Elders had said vnto them. When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and the elders had said to them.
24 And when they heard it, they lift vp their voyces to God with one accord, and said, O Lord, thou art the God which hast made the heaue, and the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. “Sovereign Lord,” they said, “you made the heavens and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
25 Which by the mouth of thy seruant Dauid hast saide, Why did the Gentiles rage, and the people imagine vaine things? who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, “‘Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of your servant, our father David: “’Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?
26 The Kings of the earth assembled, and the rulers came together against the Lord, and against his Christ. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed’— The kings of the earth rise up and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed one.’
27 For doutlesse, against thine holy Sonne Iesus, whome thou haddest anoynted, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel gathered themselues together, for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed.
28 To doe whatsoeuer thine hand, and thy counsell had determined before to be done. to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. They did what your power and will had decided beforehand should happen.
29 And nowe, O Lorde, beholde their threatnings, and graunt vnto thy seruants with all boldnesse to speake thy word, And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.
30 So that thou stretch forth thine hand, that healing, and signes, and wonders may be done by the Name of thine holy Sonne Iesus. while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”
31 And when as they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together, and they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God boldely. And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness. After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.
32 And the multitude of them that beleeued, were of one heart, and of one soule: neither any of them said, that any thing of that which he possessed, was his owne, but they had all thinges common. Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.
33 And with great power gaue the Apostles witnes of the resurrection of the Lord Iesus: and great grace was vpon them all. And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all
34 Neither was there any among them, that lacked: for as many as were possessours of landes or houses, solde them, and brought the price of the things that were solde, There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned land or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales
35 And layde it downe at the Apostles feete, and it was distributed vnto euery man, according as he had neede. and laid it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need. and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.
36 Also Ioses which was called of the Apostles, Barnabas (that is by interpretation the sonne of consolation) being a Leuite, and of the countrey of Cyprus, Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus, Joseph, a Levite from Cyprus, whom the apostles called Barnabas (which means “son of encouragement”),
37 Where as he had land, solde it, and brought the money, & laid it downe at the Apostles feete. sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles’ feet. sold a field he owned and brought the money and put it at the apostles’ feet.
