1	And he came to Derbe and Lystra, and lo, a certain disciple was there, by name Timotheus son of a certain woman, a believing Jewess, but of a father, a Greek,	Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.	Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek.
2	who was well testified to by the brethren in Lystra and Iconium;	He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium.	The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
3	this one did Paul wish to go forth with him, and having taken him, he circumcised him, because of the Jews who are in those places, for they all knew his father -- that he was a Greek.	Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 12	thence also to Philippi, which is a principal city of the part of Macedonia -- a colony. 13	on the sabbath-day also we went forth outside of the city, by a river, where there used to be prayer, and having sat down, we were speaking to the women who came together,	And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to the riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down and spoke to the women who had come together. 14	and a certain woman, by name Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, worshipping God, was hearing, whose heart the Lord did open to attend to the things spoken by Paul;	One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.	One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
15	and when she was baptized, and her household, she did call upon us, saying, 'If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having entered into my house, remain;' and she constrained us.	And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.	When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
16	And it came to pass in our going on to prayer, a certain maid, having a spirit of Python, did meet us, who brought much employment to her masters by soothsaying,	As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.	Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
17	she having followed Paul and us, was crying, saying, 'These men are servants of the Most High God, who declare to us a way of salvation;'	She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.”	She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”
18	and this she was doing for many days, but Paul having been grieved, and having turned, said to the spirit, 'I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to come forth from her;' and it came forth the same hour.	And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.	She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
19	And her masters having seen that the hope of their employment was gone, having caught Paul and Silas, drew them to the market-place, unto the rulers,	But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.	When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.
20	and having brought them to the magistrates, they said, 'These men do exceedingly trouble our city, being Jews;	And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 22	And the multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates having torn their garments from them, were commanding to beat them with rods,	The crowd joined in attacking them, and the magistrates tore the garments off them and gave orders to beat them with rods. 23	many blows also having laid upon them, they cast them to prison, having given charge to the jailor to keep them safely,	And when they had inflicted many blows upon them, they threw them into prison, ordering the jailer to keep them safely.	After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.
24	who such a charge having received, did put them to the inner prison, and their feet made fast in the stocks. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
28	and Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, 'Thou mayest not do thyself any harm, for we are all here.'	But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”	But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
29	And, having asked for a light, he sprang in, and trembling he fell down before Paul and Silas,	And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.	The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
30	and having brought them forth, said, 'Sirs, what must I do -- that I may be saved?'	Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”	He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31	and they said, 'Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved -- thou and thy house;'	And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”	They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
32	and they spake to him the word of the Lord, and to all those in his household;	And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.	Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.
33	and having taken them, in that hour of the night, he did bathe them from the blows, and was baptized, himself and all his presently,	And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.	At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.
34	having brought them also into his house, he set food before them, and was glad with all the household, he having believed in God.	Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.	The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
35	And day having come, the magistrates sent the rod-bearers, saying, 'Let those men go;'	But when it was day, the magistrates sent the police, saying, “Let those men go.”	When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.”
36	and the jailor told these words unto Paul -- 'The magistrates have sent, that ye may be let go; now, therefore, having gone forth go on in peace;'	And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Therefore come out now and go in peace.”	The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.”
37	and Paul said to them, 'Having beaten us publicly uncondemned -- men, Romans being -- they did cast us to prison, and now privately do they cast us forth! why no! but having come themselves, let them bring us forth.'	But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.”	But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”
38	And the rod-bearers told to the magistrates these sayings, and they were afraid, having heard that they are Romans,	The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens.	The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.
39	and having come, they besought them, and having brought them forth, they were asking them to go forth from the city;	So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.	They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.
40	and they, having gone forth out of the prison, entered into the house of Lydia, and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and went forth.	So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.	After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they left.
