1	And he arrived at Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, by name Timothy, son of a certain woman, a faithful Jewess; and of a Greek father:	Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.	Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek.
2	Who was testified of by the brethren in Lystra and Iconium.	He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium.	The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
3	Him Paul wished to go forth with him; and having taken, he circumcised him, on account of the Jews being in those places: for all knew his father that he was a Greek.	Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4	And as they were going through the cities, they delivered them the orders to watch, having been determined by the sent and the elders in Jerusalem. 11	Therefore having been conveyed from Troas, we ran straight forward to Samothracia, and the following day to Neapolis;	So, setting sail from Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis,	From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day we went on to Neapolis.
12	And thence to Philippi, which is the first city of Macedonia, a colony. One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
15	And when she was immersed, and her house, she besought, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, having come into my house, remain. And she forced us.	And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.	When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
16	And it was we going for prayer, a certain young girl having the spirit of Python met us, who furnished much gain to her lords, prophesying:	As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.	Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
17	She having followed Paul and us, cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, who announce to us the way of salvation.	She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.”	She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”
18	And this did she for many days. And Paul, having been exercised, and having turned back to the spirit, said, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And it came out the same hour.	And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.	She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
19	And her lords having seen that the hope of their gain went out, taking Paul and Silas, they drew to the assembly to the rulers,	But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.	When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.
20	And having brought them to the generals, they said, These the men who cause disturbance to our city, being Jews,	And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 24	Who, having received such an order, cast them into the inner prison, and placed their feet firmly in wood. 28	And Paul called with a great voice, saying, Thou shouldest do no injury to thyself; for we are all here.	But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”	But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
29	And having asked for a light, he rushed in, and being trembling, fell before Paul and Silas,	And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.	The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
30	And bringing them out, he said, Lords, what must I do that I might be saved.	Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”	He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

32	And they spake to him the word of the Lord, and to all in his house.	And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.	Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.
33	And having taken them in that hour of the night, he washed out the blows; and was immersed, he and all his, immediately.	And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.	At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.
34	And having brought them up to his house, he set a table before, and rejoiced with the entire household, having believed God.	Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.	The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
35	And it being day, the generals sent the bearers of the rod, saying, Loose these men.	But when it was day, the magistrates sent the police, saying, “Let those men go.”	When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.”
36	And the jailor announced these words to Paul, That the generals have sent that ye be loosed: now therefore having come out, go in peace.	And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Therefore come out now and go in peace.”	The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.”
37	But Paul said to them, Having stripped us publicly not condemned, being Roman men, they cast into prison and now do they cast us out secretly? not so; but having come themselves, let them bring us out.	But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.”	But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”
38	And the bearer of the rod announced these words to the generals: and they were afraid, having heard that they are Romans.	The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens.	The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.
39	And having come they besought them, and having brought out, they entreated to come out of the city.	So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.	They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.
40	And having come out of prison, they came to Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they encouraged them, and they came forth.	So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.	After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they left.
