1	AND he came to Derbe and Lystra. And behold, there was a certain disciple there named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman that believed; but his father was a Gentile.	Paul came also to Derbe and to Lystra. A disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewish woman who was a believer, but his father was a Greek.	Paul came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was Jewish and a believer but whose father was a Greek.
2	To this man the brethren that were in Lystra and Iconium, gave a good testimony.	He was well spoken of by the brothers at Lystra and Iconium.	The believers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
3	Him Paul would have to go along with him: and taking him he circumcised him, because of the Jews who were in those places. For they all knew that his father was a Gentile.	Paul wanted Timothy to accompany him, and he took him and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those places, for they all knew that his father was a Greek. 4	And as they passed through the cities, they delivered unto them the decrees for to keep, that were decreed by the apostles and ancients who were at Jerusalem. 6	And when they had passed through Phrygia, and the country of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia. 9	And a vision was shewed to Paul in the night, which was a man of Macedonia standing and beseeching him, and saying: Pass over into Macedonia, and help us. 11	And sailing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the day following to Neapolis;	So, setting sail from Troas, we made a direct voyage to Samothrace, and the following day to Neapolis,	From Troas we put out to sea and sailed straight for Samothrace, and the next day we went on to Neapolis.
12	And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of part of Macedonia, a colony. And we were in this city some days conferring together.	and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia and a Roman colony. We remained in this city some days. 13	And upon the sabbath day, we went forth without the gate by a river side, where it seemed that there was prayer; and sitting down, we spoke to the women that were assembled. 14	And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one that worshipped God, did hear: whose heart the Lord opened to attend to those things which were said by Paul.	One who heard us was a woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple goods, who was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to pay attention to what was said by Paul.	One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God. The Lord opened her heart to respond to Paul’s message.
15	And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying: If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.	And after she was baptized, and her household as well, she urged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come to my house and stay.” And she prevailed upon us.	When she and the members of her household were baptized, she invited us to her home. “If you consider me a believer in the Lord,” she said, “come and stay at my house.” And she persuaded us.
16	And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain girl, having a pythonical spirit, met us, who brought to her masters much gain by divining.	As we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit of divination and brought her owners much gain by fortune-telling.	Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a female slave who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
17	This same following Paul and us, cried out, saying: These men are the servants of the most high God, who preach unto you the way of salvation.	She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.”	She followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved.”
18	And this she did many days. But Paul being grieved, turned, and said to the spirit: I command thee, in the name of Jesus Christ, to go out from her. And he went out the same hour.	And this she kept doing for many days. Paul, having become greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And it came out that very hour.	She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so annoyed that he turned around and said to the spirit, “In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!” At that moment the spirit left her.
19	But her masters, seeing that the hope of their gain was gone, apprehending Paul and Silas, brought them into the marketplace to the rulers.	But when her owners saw that their hope of gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.	When her owners realized that their hope of making money was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to face the authorities.
20	And presenting them to the magistrates, they said: These men disturb our city, being Jews;	And when they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men are Jews, and they are disturbing our city. 22	And the people ran together against them; and the magistrates rending off their clothes, commanded them to be beaten with rods. 23	And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the gaoler to keep them diligently. After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully.
24	Who having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks. 25	And at midnight, Paul and Silas praying, praised God. And they that were in prison, heard them. The jailer woke up, and when he saw the prison doors open, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself because he thought the prisoners had escaped.
28	But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying: Do thyself no harm, for we all are here.	But Paul cried with a loud voice, “Do not harm yourself, for we are all here.”	But Paul shouted, “Don’t harm yourself! We are all here!”
29	Then calling for a light, he went in, and trembling, fell down at the feet of Paul and Silas.	And the jailer called for lights and rushed in, and trembling with fear he fell down before Paul and Silas.	The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas.
30	And bringing them out, he said: Masters, what must I do, that I may be saved?	Then he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”	He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31	But they said: Believe in the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.	And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”	They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.”
32	And they preached the word of the Lord to him and to all that were in his house.	And they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.	Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.
33	And he, taking them the same hour of the night, washed their stripes, and himself was baptized, and all his house immediately.	And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family.	At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized.
34	And when he had brought them into his own house, he laid the table for them, and rejoiced with all his house, believing God.	Then he brought them up into his house and set food before them. And he rejoiced along with his entire household that he had believed in God.	The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
35	And when the day was come, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.	But when it was day, the magistrates sent the police, saying, “Let those men go.”	When it was daylight, the magistrates sent their officers to the jailer with the order: “Release those men.”
36	And the keeper of the prison told these words to Paul: The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore depart, and go in peace.	And the jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go. Therefore come out now and go in peace.”	The jailer told Paul, “The magistrates have ordered that you and Silas be released. Now you can leave. Go in peace.”
37	But Paul said to them: They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men that are Romans, and have cast us into prison: and now do they thrust us out privately? Not so; but let them come,	But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, uncondemned, men who are Roman citizens, and have thrown us into prison; and do they now throw us out secretly? No! Let them come themselves and take us out.”	But Paul said to the officers: “They beat us publicly without a trial, even though we are Roman citizens, and threw us into prison. And now do they want to get rid of us quietly? No! Let them come themselves and escort us out.”
38	And let us out themselves. And the serjeants told these words to the magistrates. And they were afraid, hearing that they were Romans.	The police reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Roman citizens.	The officers reported this to the magistrates, and when they heard that Paul and Silas were Roman citizens, they were alarmed.
39	And coming, they besought them; and bringing them out, they desired them to depart out of the city.	So they came and apologized to them. And they took them out and asked them to leave the city.	They came to appease them and escorted them from the prison, requesting them to leave the city.
40	And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia; and having seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.	So they went out of the prison and visited Lydia. And when they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them and departed.	After Paul and Silas came out of the prison, they went to Lydia’s house, where they met with the brothers and sisters and encouraged them. Then they left.
