2	devout and God-fearing along with his whole household, who used to give alms generously to the Jewish people and pray to God constantly.	a devout man who feared God with all his household, gave alms generously to the people, and prayed continually to God.	He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.
3	One afternoon about three o’clock, he saw plainly in a vision an angel of God come in to him and say to him, “Cornelius.”	About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God come in and say to him, “Cornelius.”	One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!”
4	He looked intently at him and, seized with fear, said, “What is it, sir?” He said to him, “Your prayers and almsgiving have ascended as a memorial offering before God.	And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.	Cornelius stared at him in fear. “What is it, Lord?” he asked. The angel answered, “Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.
5	Now send some men to Joppa and summon one Simon who is called Peter.	And now send men to Joppa and bring one Simon who is called Peter.	Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.
6	He is staying with another Simon, a tanner, who has a house by the sea.”	He is lodging with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea.”	He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea.”

10	He was hungry and wished to eat, and while they were making preparations he fell into a trance. 13	A voice said to him, “Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.”	And there came a voice to him: “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”	Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
14	But Peter said, “Certainly not, sir. For never have I eaten anything profane and unclean.”	But Peter said, “By no means, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”	“Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.”
15	The voice spoke to him again, a second time, “What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.”	And the voice came to him again a second time, “What God has made clean, do not call common.”	The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.”
16	This happened three times, and then the object was taken up into the sky.	This happened three times, and the thing was taken up at once to heaven.	This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
17	While Peter was in doubt about the meaning of the vision he had seen, the men sent by Cornelius asked for Simon’s house and arrived at the entrance.	Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood at the gate	While Peter was wondering about the meaning of the vision, the men sent by Cornelius found out where Simon’s house was and stopped at the gate.
18	They called out inquiring whether Simon, who is called Peter, was staying there.	and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there.	They called out, asking if Simon who was known as Peter was staying there.
19	As Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said [to him], “There are three men here looking for you.	And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you.	While Peter was still thinking about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Simon, three men are looking for you.
20	So get up, go downstairs, and accompany them without hesitation, because I have sent them.”	Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.”	So get up and go downstairs. Do not hesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”
21	Then Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your being here?”	And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?”	Peter went down and said to the men, “I’m the one you’re looking for. Why have you come?”
22	They answered, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, respected by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house and to hear what you have to say.”	And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.”	The men replied, “We have come from Cornelius the centurion. He is a righteous and God-fearing man, who is respected by all the Jewish people. A holy angel told him to ask you to come to his house so that he could hear what you have to say.”
23	So he invited them in and showed them hospitality. The next day he got up and went with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa went with him.	So he invited them in to be his guests. The next day he rose and went away with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.	Then Peter invited the men into the house to be his guests. The next day Peter started out with them, and some of the believers from Joppa went along.
24	On the following day he entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.	And on the following day they entered Caesarea. Cornelius was expecting them and had called together his relatives and close friends.	The following day he arrived in Caesarea. 25	When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, paid him homage.	When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.	As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence.
26	Peter, however, raised him up, saying, “Get up. I myself am also a human being.”	But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I too am a man.”	But Peter made him get up. “Stand up,” he said, “I am only a man myself.”
27	While he conversed with him, he went in and found many people gathered together	And as he talked with him, he went in and found many persons gathered.	While talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.
28	and said to them, “You know that it is unlawful for a Jewish man to associate with, or visit, a Gentile, but God has shown me that I should not call any person profane or unclean.	And he said to them, “You yourselves know how unlawful it is for a Jew to associate with or to visit anyone of another nation, but God has shown me that I should not call any person common or unclean.	He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.
29	And that is why I came without objection when sent for. May I ask, then, why you summoned me?”	So when I was sent for, I came without objection. I ask then why you sent for me.”	So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?”
30	Cornelius replied, “Four days ago at this hour, three o’clock in the afternoon, I was at prayer in my house when suddenly a man in dazzling robes stood before me and said,	And Cornelius said, “Four days ago, about this hour, I was praying in my house at the ninth hour, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing	Cornelius answered: “Three days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me
31	‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your almsgiving remembered before God.	and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer has been heard and your alms have been remembered before God.	and said, ‘Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.
32	Send therefore to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter. He is a guest in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’	Send therefore to Joppa and ask for Simon who is called Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea.’	Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.’
33	So I sent for you immediately, and you were kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to listen to all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”	So I sent for you at once, and you have been kind enough to come. Now therefore we are all here in the presence of God to hear all that you have been commanded by the Lord.”	So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us.”
34	Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, “In truth, I see that God shows no partiality.	So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality,	Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism
35	Rather, in every nation whoever fears him and acts uprightly is acceptable to him.	but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.	but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.
36	You know the word [that] he sent to the Israelites as he proclaimed peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all,	As for the word that he sent to Israel, preaching good news of peace through Jesus Christ (he is Lord of all),	You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, announcing the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.
37	what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached,	you yourselves know what happened throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee after the baptism that John proclaimed:	You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached—
38	how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power. 46	for they could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then Peter responded,	For they were hearing them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter declared,	For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,
47	“Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people, who have received the holy Spirit even as we have?”	“Can anyone withhold water for baptizing these people, who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?”	“Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”
48	He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. [49] Then they invited him to stay for a few days.	And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to remain for some days.	So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.
