Hosea 11
NLT Parallel NASB [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationNew American Standard Bible 1995
“When Israel was a child, I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt.1When Israel was a youth I loved him, And out of Egypt I called My son.
But the more I called to him, the farther he moved from me, offering sacrifices to the images of Baal and burning incense to idols.2The more they called them, The more they went from them; They kept sacrificing to the Baals And burning incense to idols.
I myself taught Israel how to walk, leading him along by the hand. But he doesn’t know or even care that it was I who took care of him.3Yet it is I who taught Ephraim to walk, I took them in My arms; But they did not know that I healed them.
I led Israel along with my ropes of kindness and love. I lifted the yoke from his neck, and I myself stooped to feed him.4I led them with cords of a man, with bonds of love, And I became to them as one who lifts the yoke from their jaws; And I bent down and fed them.
“But since my people refuse to return to me, they will return to Egypt and will be forced to serve Assyria.5They will not return to the land of Egypt; But Assyria-- he will be their king Because they refused to return to Me.
War will swirl through their cities; their enemies will crash through their gates. They will destroy them, trapping them in their own evil plans.6The sword will whirl against their cities, And will demolish their gate bars And consume them because of their counsels.
For my people are determined to desert me. They call me the Most High, but they don’t truly honor me.7So My people are bent on turning from Me. Though they call them to the One on high, None at all exalts Him.
“Oh, how can I give you up, Israel? How can I let you go? How can I destroy you like Admah or demolish you like Zeboiim? My heart is torn within me, and my compassion overflows.8How can I give you up, O Ephraim? How can I surrender you, O Israel? How can I make you like Admah? How can I treat you like Zeboiim? My heart is turned over within Me, All My compassions are kindled.
No, I will not unleash my fierce anger. I will not completely destroy Israel, for I am God and not a mere mortal. I am the Holy One living among you, and I will not come to destroy.9I will not execute My fierce anger; I will not destroy Ephraim again. For I am God and not man, the Holy One in your midst, And I will not come in wrath.
For someday the people will follow me. I, the LORD, will roar like a lion. And when I roar, my people will return trembling from the west.10They will walk after the LORD, He will roar like a lion; Indeed He will roar And His sons will come trembling from the west.
Like a flock of birds, they will come from Egypt. Trembling like doves, they will return from Assyria. And I will bring them home again,” says the LORD. Charges against Israel and Judah11They will come trembling like birds from Egypt And like doves from the land of Assyria; And I will settle them in their houses, declares the LORD.
Israel surrounds me with lies and deceit, but Judah still obeys God and is faithful to the Holy One.12Ephraim surrounds Me with lies And the house of Israel with deceit; Judah is also unruly against God, Even against the Holy One who is faithful.
