Then the LORD said to Moses,1And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
“Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year.2On the first day of the first month shalt thou set up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.
Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.3And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail.
Then bring in the table, and arrange the utensils on it. And bring in the lampstand, and set up the lamps.4And thou shalt bring in the table, and set in order the things that are to be set in order upon it; and thou shalt bring in the candlestick, and light the lamps thereof.
“Place the gold incense altar in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Then hang the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle.5And thou shalt set the altar of gold for the incense before the ark of the testimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.
Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the Tabernacle entrance.6And thou shalt set the altar of the burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.
Set the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water.7And thou shalt set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and shalt put water therein.
Then set up the courtyard around the outside of the tent, and hang the curtain for the courtyard entrance.8And thou shalt set up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court gate.
“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy.9And thou shalt take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle, and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the vessels thereof: and it shall be holy.
Anoint the altar of burnt offering and its utensils to consecrate them. Then the altar will become absolutely holy.10And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt offering, and all his vessels, and sanctify the altar: and it shall be an altar most holy.
Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them.11And thou shalt anoint the laver and his foot, and sanctify it.
“Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water.12And thou shalt bring Aaron and his sons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.
Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest.13And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and sanctify him; that he may minister unto me in the priest's office.
Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics.14And thou shalt bring his sons, and clothe them with coats:
Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.”15And thou shalt anoint them, as thou didst anoint their father, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office: for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations.
Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him.16Thus did Moses: according to all that the LORD commanded him, so did he.
So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.17And it came to pass in the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was reared up.
Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts.18And Moses reared up the tabernacle, and fastened his sockets, and set up the boards thereof, and put in the bars thereof, and reared up his pillars.
Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him.19And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Moses.
He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed them inside the Ark. Then he attached the carrying poles to the Ark, and he set the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—on top of it.20And he took and put the testimony into the ark, and set the staves on the ark, and put the mercy seat above upon the ark:
Then he brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle and hung the inner curtain to shield it from view, just as the LORD had commanded him.21And he brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up the vail of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the table in the Tabernacle, along the north side of the Holy Place, just outside the inner curtain.22And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the side of the tabernacle northward, without the vail.
And he arranged the Bread of the Presence on the table before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.23And he set the bread in order upon it before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He set the lampstand in the Tabernacle across from the table on the south side of the Holy Place.24And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the side of the tabernacle southward.
Then he lit the lamps in the LORD’s presence, just as the LORD had commanded him.25And he lighted the lamps before the LORD; as the LORD commanded Moses.
He also placed the gold incense altar in the Tabernacle, in the Holy Place in front of the inner curtain.26And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation before the vail:
On it he burned the fragrant incense, just as the LORD had commanded him.27And he burnt sweet incense thereon; as the LORD commanded Moses.
He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle,28And he set up the hanging at the door of the tabernacle.
and he placed the altar of burnt offering near the Tabernacle entrance. On it he offered a burnt offering and a grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.29And he put the altar of burnt offering by the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation, and offered upon it the burnt offering and the meat offering; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves.30And he set the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withal.
Moses and Aaron and Aaron’s sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet.31And Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet thereat:
Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.32When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. The LORD’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle33And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses finished the work.
Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.34Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.35And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it.36And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Israel went onward in all their journeys:
But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted.37But if the cloud were not taken up, then they journeyed not till the day that it was taken up.
The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.38For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel, throughout all their journeys.
