New Living TranslationEnglish Standard Version
Then the LORD said to Moses,1The LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year.2“On the first day of the first month you shall erect the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.
Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.3And you shall put in it the ark of the testimony, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.
Then bring in the table, and arrange the utensils on it. And bring in the lampstand, and set up the lamps.4And you shall bring in the table and arrange it, and you shall bring in the lampstand and set up its lamps.
“Place the gold incense altar in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Then hang the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle.5And you shall put the golden altar for incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the screen for the door of the tabernacle.
Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the Tabernacle entrance.6You shall set the altar of burnt offering before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting,
Set the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water.7and place the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it.
Then set up the courtyard around the outside of the tent, and hang the curtain for the courtyard entrance.8And you shall set up the court all around, and hang up the screen for the gate of the court.
“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy.9“Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and consecrate it and all its furniture, so that it may become holy.
Anoint the altar of burnt offering and its utensils to consecrate them. Then the altar will become absolutely holy.10You shall also anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, so that the altar may become most holy.
Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them.11You shall also anoint the basin and its stand, and consecrate it.
“Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water.12Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and shall wash them with water
Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest.13and put on Aaron the holy garments. And you shall anoint him and consecrate him, that he may serve me as priest.
Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics.14You shall bring his sons also and put coats on them,
Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.”15and anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may serve me as priests. And their anointing shall admit them to a perpetual priesthood throughout their generations.”
Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him.16This Moses did; according to all that the LORD commanded him, so he did.
So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.17In the first month in the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected.
Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts.18Moses erected the tabernacle. He laid its bases, and set up its frames, and put in its poles, and raised up its pillars.
Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him.19And he spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent over it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed them inside the Ark. Then he attached the carrying poles to the Ark, and he set the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—on top of it.20He took the testimony and put it into the ark, and put the poles on the ark and set the mercy seat above on the ark.
Then he brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle and hung the inner curtain to shield it from view, just as the LORD had commanded him.21And he brought the ark into the tabernacle and set up the veil of the screen, and screened the ark of the testimony, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the table in the Tabernacle, along the north side of the Holy Place, just outside the inner curtain.22He put the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil,
And he arranged the Bread of the Presence on the table before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.23and arranged the bread on it before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He set the lampstand in the Tabernacle across from the table on the south side of the Holy Place.24He put the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle,
Then he lit the lamps in the LORD’s presence, just as the LORD had commanded him.25and set up the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He also placed the gold incense altar in the Tabernacle, in the Holy Place in front of the inner curtain.26He put the golden altar in the tent of meeting before the veil,
On it he burned the fragrant incense, just as the LORD had commanded him.27and burned fragrant incense on it, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle,28He put in place the screen for the door of the tabernacle.
and he placed the altar of burnt offering near the Tabernacle entrance. On it he offered a burnt offering and a grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.29And he set the altar of burnt offering at the entrance of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the grain offering, as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves.30He set the basin between the tent of meeting and the altar, and put water in it for washing,
Moses and Aaron and Aaron’s sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet.31with which Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet.
Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.32When they went into the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, as the LORD commanded Moses.
Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. The LORD’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle33And he erected the court around the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the screen of the gate of the court. So Moses finished the work.
Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.34Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.35And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it.36Throughout all their journeys, whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out.
But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted.37But if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out till the day that it was taken up.
The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.38For the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and fire was in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel throughout all their journeys.
