1The sons of Israel were Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,1These were Israel's sons: Reuben, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Zebulun,
2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher. Descendants of Judah2Dan, Joseph, Benjamin, Naphtali, Gad, and Asher.
3Judah had three sons from Bathshua, a Canaanite woman. Their names were Er, Onan, and Shelah. But the LORD saw that the oldest son, Er, was a wicked man, so he killed him.3Judah's sons: Er, Onan, and Shelah. These three were born to him by Bath-shua the Canaanite woman. Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the LORD's sight, so he put him to death.
4Later Judah had twin sons from Tamar, his widowed daughter-in-law. Their names were Perez and Zerah. So Judah had five sons in all.4Judah's daughter-in-law Tamar bore Perez and Zerah to him. Judah had five sons in all.
5The sons of Perez were Hezron and Hamul.5Perez's sons: Hezron and Hamul.
6The sons of Zerah were Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Darda —five in all.6Zerah's sons: Zimri, Ethan, Heman, Calcol, and Dara--five in all.
7The son of Carmi (a descendant of Zimri) was Achan, who brought disaster on Israel by taking plunder that had been set apart for the LORD.7Carmi's son: Achar, who brought trouble on Israel when he was unfaithful by taking the things set apart for destruction.
8The son of Ethan was Azariah. From Judah’s Grandson Hezron to David8Ethan's son: Azariah.
9The sons of Hezron were Jerahmeel, Ram, and Caleb.9Hezron's sons, who were born to him: Jerahmeel, Ram, and Chelubai.
10Ram was the father of Amminadab. Amminadab was the father of Nahshon, a leader of Judah.10Ram fathered Amminadab, and Amminadab fathered Nahshon, a leader of Judah's descendants.
11Nahshon was the father of Salmon. Salmon was the father of Boaz.11Nahshon fathered Salma, and Salma fathered Boaz.
12Boaz was the father of Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse.12Boaz fathered Obed, and Obed fathered Jesse.
13Jesse’s first son was Eliab, his second was Abinadab, his third was Shimea,13Jesse fathered Eliab, his firstborn; Abinadab was born second, Shimea third,
14his fourth was Nethanel, his fifth was Raddai,14Nethanel fourth, Raddai fifth,
15his sixth was Ozem, and his seventh was David.15Ozem sixth, and David seventh.
16Their sisters were named Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah had three sons named Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.16Their sisters were Zeruiah and Abigail. Zeruiah's three sons: Abishai, Joab, and Asahel.
17Abigail married a man named Jether, an Ishmaelite, and they had a son named Amasa. Other Descendants of Hezron17Amasa's mother was Abigail, and his father was Jether the Ishmaelite.
18Hezron’s son Caleb had sons from his wife Azubah and from Jerioth. Her sons were named Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.18Caleb son of Hezron had children by his wife Azubah and by Jerioth. These were Azubah's sons: Jesher, Shobab, and Ardon.
19After Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrathah, and they had a son named Hur.19When Azubah died, Caleb married Ephrath, and she bore Hur to him.
20Hur was the father of Uri. Uri was the father of Bezalel.20Hur fathered Uri, and Uri fathered Bezalel.
21When Hezron was sixty years old, he married Gilead’s sister, the daughter of Makir. They had a son named Segub.21After this, Hezron slept with the daughter of Machir the father of Gilead. Hezron had married her when he was sixty years old, and she bore Segub to him.
22Segub was the father of Jair, who ruled twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead.22Segub fathered Jair, who possessed twenty-three towns in the land of Gilead.
23(But Geshur and Aram captured the Towns of Jair and also took Kenath and its sixty surrounding villages.) All these were descendants of Makir, the father of Gilead.23But Geshur and Aram captured Jair's Villages along with Kenath and its surrounding villages--sixty towns. All these were the descendants of Machir father of Gilead.
24Soon after Hezron died in the town of Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah gave birth to a son named Ashhur (the father of Tekoa). Descendants of Hezron’s Son Jerahmeel24After Hezron's death in Caleb-ephrathah, his wife Abijah bore Ashhur to him. He was the father of Tekoa.
25The sons of Jerahmeel, the oldest son of Hezron, were Ram (the firstborn), Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.25The sons of Jerahmeel, Hezron's firstborn: Ram, his firstborn, Bunah, Oren, Ozem, and Ahijah.
26Jerahmeel had a second wife named Atarah. She was the mother of Onam.26Jerahmeel had another wife named Atarah, who was the mother of Onam.
27The sons of Ram, the oldest son of Jerahmeel, were Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.27The sons of Ram, Jerahmeel's firstborn: Maaz, Jamin, and Eker.
28The sons of Onam were Shammai and Jada. The sons of Shammai were Nadab and Abishur.28Onam's sons: Shammai and Jada. Shammai's sons: Nadab and Abishur.
29The sons of Abishur and his wife Abihail were Ahban and Molid.29Abishur's wife was named Abihail, who bore Ahban and Molid to him.
30The sons of Nadab were Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children,30Nadab's sons: Seled and Appaim. Seled died without children.
31but Appaim had a son named Ishi. The son of Ishi was Sheshan. Sheshan had a descendant named Ahlai.31Appaim's son: Ishi. Ishi's son: Sheshan. Sheshan's descendant: Ahlai.
32The sons of Jada, Shammai’s brother, were Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children,32The sons of Jada, brother of Shammai: Jether and Jonathan. Jether died without children.
33but Jonathan had two sons named Peleth and Zaza. These were all descendants of Jerahmeel.33Jonathan's sons: Peleth and Zaza. These were the descendants of Jerahmeel.
34Sheshan had no sons, though he did have daughters. He also had an Egyptian servant named Jarha.34Sheshan had no sons, only daughters, but he did have an Egyptian servant whose name was Jarha.
35Sheshan gave one of his daughters to be the wife of Jarha, and they had a son named Attai.35Sheshan gave his daughter in marriage to his servant Jarha, and she bore Attai to him.
36Attai was the father of Nathan. Nathan was the father of Zabad.36Attai fathered Nathan, and Nathan fathered Zabad.
37Zabad was the father of Ephlal. Ephlal was the father of Obed.37Zabad fathered Ephlal, and Ephlal fathered Obed.
38Obed was the father of Jehu. Jehu was the father of Azariah.38Obed fathered Jehu, and Jehu fathered Azariah.
39Azariah was the father of Helez. Helez was the father of Eleasah.39Azariah fathered Helez, and Helez fathered Elasah.
40Eleasah was the father of Sismai. Sismai was the father of Shallum.40Elasah fathered Sismai, and Sismai fathered Shallum.
41Shallum was the father of Jekamiah. Jekamiah was the father of Elishama. Descendants of Hezron’s Son Caleb41Shallum fathered Jekamiah, and Jekamiah fathered Elishama.
42The descendants of Caleb, the brother of Jerahmeel, included Mesha (the firstborn), who became the father of Ziph. Caleb’s descendants also included the sons of Mareshah, the father of Hebron.42The sons of Caleb brother of Jerahmeel: Mesha, his firstborn, fathered Ziph, and Mareshah, his second son, fathered Hebron.
43The sons of Hebron were Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.43Hebron's sons: Korah, Tappuah, Rekem, and Shema.
44Shema was the father of Raham. Raham was the father of Jorkeam. Rekem was the father of Shammai.44Shema fathered Raham, who fathered Jorkeam, and Rekem fathered Shammai.
45The son of Shammai was Maon. Maon was the father of Beth-zur.45Shammai's son was Maon, and Maon fathered Beth-zur.
46Caleb’s concubine Ephah gave birth to Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran was the father of Gazez.46Caleb's concubine Ephah was the mother of Haran, Moza, and Gazez. Haran fathered Gazez.
47The sons of Jahdai were Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.47Jahdai's sons: Regem, Jotham, Geshan, Pelet, Ephah, and Shaaph.
48Another of Caleb’s concubines, Maacah, gave birth to Sheber and Tirhanah.48Caleb's concubine Maacah was the mother of Sheber and Tirhanah.
49She also gave birth to Shaaph (the father of Madmannah) and Sheva (the father of Macbenah and Gibea). Caleb also had a daughter named Acsah.49She was also the mother of Shaaph, Madmannah's father, and of Sheva, the father of Machbenah and Gibea. Caleb's daughter was Achsah.
50These were all descendants of Caleb. Descendants of Caleb’s Son Hur The sons of Hur, the oldest son of Caleb’s wife Ephrathah, were Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim),50These were Caleb's descendants. The sons of Hur, Ephrathah's firstborn: Shobal fathered Kiriath-jearim;
51Salma (the founder of Bethlehem), and Hareph (the founder of Beth-gader).51Salma fathered Bethlehem, and Hareph fathered Beth-gader.
52The descendants of Shobal (the founder of Kiriath-jearim) were Haroeh, half the Manahathites,52These were the descendants of Shobal the father of Kiriath-jearim: Haroeh, half of the Manahathites,
53and the families of Kiriath-jearim—the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites, from whom came the people of Zorah and Eshtaol.53and the families of Kiriath-jearim--the Ithrites, Puthites, Shumathites, and Mishraites. The Zorathites and Eshtaolites descended from these.
54The descendants of Salma were the people of Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, the other half of the Manahathites, the Zorites,54Salma's descendants: Bethlehem, the Netophathites, Atroth-beth-joab, and half of the Manahathites, the Zorites,
55and the families of scribes living at Jabez—the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. All these were Kenites who descended from Hammath, the father of the family of Recab.55and the families of scribes who lived in Jabez--the Tirathites, Shimeathites, and Sucathites. These are the Kenites who came from Hammath, the father of Rechab's family.
