| 1 Then the LORD said to Moses, | 1And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 2“Suppose one of you sins against your associate and is unfaithful to the LORD. Suppose you cheat in a deal involving a security deposit, or you steal or commit fraud, | 2“If someone sins and acts unfaithfully against the LORD by deceiving his neighbor in regard to a deposit or security entrusted to him or stolen, or if he extorts his neighbor |
| 3or you find lost property and lie about it, or you lie while swearing to tell the truth, or you commit any other such sin. | 3or finds lost property and lies about it and swears falsely, or if he commits any such sin that a man might commit— |
| 4If you have sinned in any of these ways, you are guilty. You must give back whatever you stole, or the money you took by extortion, or the security deposit, or the lost property you found, | 4once he has sinned and becomes guilty, he must return what he has stolen or taken by extortion, or the deposit entrusted to him, or the lost property he found, |
| 5or anything obtained by swearing falsely. You must make restitution by paying the full price plus an additional 20 percent to the person you have harmed. On the same day you must present a guilt offering. | 5or anything else about which he has sworn falsely. He must make restitution in full, add a fifth of the value, and pay it to the owner on the day he acknowledges his guilt. |
| 6As a guilt offering to the LORD, you must bring to the priest your own ram with no defects, or you may buy one of equal value. | 6Then he must bring to the priest his guilt offering to the LORD: an unblemished ram of proper value from the flock. |
| 7Through this process, the priest will purify you before the LORD, making you right with him, and you will be forgiven for any of these sins you have committed.” Further Instructions for the Burnt Offering | 7In this way the priest will make atonement for him before the LORD, and he will be forgiven for anything he may have done to incur guilt.” |
| 8 Then the LORD said to Moses, | 8Then the LORD said to Moses, |
| 9“Give Aaron and his sons the following instructions regarding the burnt offering. The burnt offering must be left on top of the altar until the next morning, and the fire on the altar must be kept burning all night. | 9“Command Aaron and his sons that this is the law of the burnt offering: The burnt offering is to remain on the hearth of the altar all night, until morning, and the fire must be kept burning on the altar. |
| 10In the morning, after the priest on duty has put on his official linen clothing and linen undergarments, he must clean out the ashes of the burnt offering and put them beside the altar. | 10And the priest shall put on his linen robe and linen undergarments, and he shall remove from the altar the ashes of the burnt offering that the fire has consumed and place them beside it. |
| 11Then he must take off these garments, change back into his regular clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a place that is ceremonially clean. | 11Then he must take off his garments, put on other clothes, and carry the ashes outside the camp to a ceremonially clean place. |
| 12Meanwhile, the fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must never go out. Each morning the priest will add fresh wood to the fire and arrange the burnt offering on it. He will then burn the fat of the peace offerings on it. | 12The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it must not be extinguished. Every morning the priest is to add wood to the fire, arrange the burnt offering on it, and burn the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. |
| 13Remember, the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times. It must never go out. Further Instructions for the Grain Offering | 13The fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be extinguished. |
| 14“These are the instructions regarding the grain offering. Aaron’s sons must present this offering to the LORD in front of the altar. | 14Now this is the law of the grain offering: Aaron’s sons shall present it before the LORD in front of the altar. |
| 15The priest on duty will take from the grain offering a handful of the choice flour moistened with olive oil, together with all the frankincense. He will burn this representative portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. | 15The priest is to remove a handful of fine flour and olive oil, together with all the frankincense from the grain offering, and burn the memorial portion on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. |
| 16Aaron and his sons may eat the rest of the flour, but it must be baked without yeast and eaten in a sacred place within the courtyard of the Tabernacle. | 16Aaron and his sons are to eat the remainder. It must be eaten without leaven in a holy place; they are to eat it in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. |
| 17Remember, it must never be prepared with yeast. I have given it to the priests as their share of the special gifts presented to me. Like the sin offering and the guilt offering, it is most holy. | 17It must not be baked with leaven; I have assigned it as their portion of My offerings made by fire. It is most holy, like the sin offering and the guilt offering. |
| 18Any of Aaron’s male descendants may eat from the special gifts presented to the LORD. This is their permanent right from generation to generation. Anyone or anything that touches these offerings will become holy.” Procedures for the Ordination Offering | 18Any male among the sons of Aaron may eat it. This is a permanent portion from the offerings made by fire to the LORD for the generations to come. Anything that touches them will become holy.” |
| 19Then the LORD said to Moses, | 19Then the LORD said to Moses, |
| 20“On the day Aaron and his sons are anointed, they must present to the LORD the standard grain offering of two quarts of choice flour, half to be offered in the morning and half to be offered in the evening. | 20“This is the offering that Aaron and his sons must present to the LORD on the day he is anointed: a tenth of an ephah of fine flour as a regular grain offering, half of it in the morning and half in the evening. |
| 21It must be carefully mixed with olive oil and cooked on a griddle. Then slice this grain offering and present it as a pleasing aroma to the LORD. | 21It shall be prepared with oil on a griddle; you are to bring it well-kneaded and present it as a grain offering broken in pieces, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. |
| 22In each generation, the high priest who succeeds Aaron must prepare this same offering. It belongs to the LORD and must be burned up completely. This is a permanent law. | 22The priest, who is one of Aaron’s sons and will be anointed to take his place, is to prepare it. As a permanent portion for the LORD, it must be burned completely. |
| 23All such grain offerings of a priest must be burned up entirely. None of it may be eaten.” Further Instructions for the Sin Offering | 23Every grain offering for a priest shall be burned completely; it is not to be eaten.” |
| 24Then the LORD said to Moses, | 24And the LORD said to Moses, |
| 25“Give Aaron and his sons the following instructions regarding the sin offering. The animal given as an offering for sin is a most holy offering, and it must be slaughtered in the LORD’s presence at the place where the burnt offerings are slaughtered. | 25“Tell Aaron and his sons that this is the law of the sin offering: In the place where the burnt offering is slaughtered, the sin offering shall be slaughtered before the LORD; it is most holy. |
| 26The priest who offers the sacrifice as a sin offering must eat his portion in a sacred place within the courtyard of the Tabernacle. | 26The priest who offers it shall eat it; it must be eaten in a holy place, in the courtyard of the Tent of Meeting. |
| 27Anyone or anything that touches the sacrificial meat will become holy. If any of the sacrificial blood spatters on a person’s clothing, the soiled garment must be washed in a sacred place. | 27Anything that touches its flesh will become holy, and if any of the blood is spattered on a garment, you must wash it in a holy place. |
| 28If a clay pot is used to boil the sacrificial meat, it must then be broken. If a bronze pot is used, it must be scoured and thoroughly rinsed with water. | 28The clay pot in which the sin offering is boiled must be broken; if it is boiled in a bronze pot, the pot must be scoured and rinsed with water. |
| 29Any male from a priest’s family may eat from this offering; it is most holy. | 29Any male among the priests may eat it; it is most holy. |
| 30But the offering for sin may not be eaten if its blood was brought into the Tabernacle as an offering for purification in the Holy Place. It must be completely burned with fire. | 30But no sin offering may be eaten if its blood has been brought into the Tent of Meeting to make atonement in the Holy Place; it must be burned. |
