New King James Version | New International Version |
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, | 1Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. |
who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. | 2He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God's house. |
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. | 3Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. |
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. | 4For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. |
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, | 5"Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's house," bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. |
but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end. | 6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God's house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory. |
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, | 7So, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you hear his voice, |
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, | 8do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the wilderness, |
Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. | 9where your ancestors tested and tried me, though for forty years they saw what I did. |
Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ | 10That is why I was angry with that generation; I said, 'Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways.' |
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ” | 11So I declared on oath in my anger, 'They shall never enter my rest.'" |
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; | 12See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. |
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called "Today," so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. |
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, | 14We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. |
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” | 15As has just been said: "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion." |
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? | 16Who were they who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt? |
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? | 17And with whom was he angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies perished in the wilderness? |
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? | 18And to whom did God swear that they would never enter his rest if not to those who disobeyed? |
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief. |
