New King James Version | Holman Christian Standard Bible |
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus, | 1Therefore, holy brothers and companions in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession; |
who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house. | 2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was in all God's household. |
For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house. | 3For Jesus is considered worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder has more honor than the house. |
For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God. | 4Now every house is built by someone, but the One who built everything is God. |
And Moses indeed was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which would be spoken afterward, | 5Moses was faithful as a servant in all God's household, as a testimony to what would be said in the future. |
but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end. | 6But Christ was faithful as a Son over His household. And we are that household if we hold on to the courage and the confidence of our hope. |
Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you will hear His voice, | 7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: Today, if you hear His voice, |
Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness, | 8do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, on the day of testing in the wilderness, |
Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years. | 9where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, and saw My works |
Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, ‘They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.’ | 10for 40 years. Therefore I was provoked with that generation and said, "They always go astray in their hearts, and they have not known My ways." |
So I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ” | 11So I swore in My anger, "They will not enter My rest." |
Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; | 12Watch out, brothers, so that there won't be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart that departs from the living God. |
but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. | 13But encourage each other daily, while it is still called today, so that none of you is hardened by sin's deception. |
For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end, | 14For we have become companions of the Messiah if we hold firmly until the end the reality that we had at the start. |
while it is said: “Today, if you will hear His voice, Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion.” | 15As it is said: Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. |
For who, having heard, rebelled? Indeed, was it not all who came out of Egypt, led by Moses? | 16For who heard and rebelled? Wasn't it really all who came out of Egypt under Moses? |
Now with whom was He angry forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose corpses fell in the wilderness? | 17And who was He provoked with for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? |
And to whom did He swear that they would not enter His rest, but to those who did not obey? | 18And who did He swear to that they would not enter His rest, if not those who disobeyed? |
So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. | 19So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief. |
