New International VersionNew American Standard Bible 1995
For the director of music. For Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A psalm. I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me.1For the choir director; according to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph. My voice rises to God, and I will cry aloud; My voice rises to God, and He will hear me.
When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.2In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord; In the night my hand was stretched out without weariness; My soul refused to be comforted.
I remembered you, God, and I groaned; I meditated, and my spirit grew faint.3When I remember God, then I am disturbed; When I sigh, then my spirit grows faint. Selah.
You kept my eyes from closing; I was too troubled to speak.4You have held my eyelids open; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
I thought about the former days, the years of long ago;5I have considered the days of old, The years of long ago.
I remembered my songs in the night. My heart meditated and my spirit asked:6I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart, And my spirit ponders:
"Will the Lord reject forever? Will he never show his favor again?7Will the Lord reject forever? And will He never be favorable again?
Has his unfailing love vanished forever? Has his promise failed for all time?8Has His lovingkindness ceased forever? Has His promise come to an end forever?
Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?"9Has God forgotten to be gracious, Or has He in anger withdrawn His compassion? Selah.
Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand.10Then I said, "It is my grief, That the right hand of the Most High has changed."
I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.11I shall remember the deeds of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds."12I will meditate on all Your work And muse on Your deeds.
Your ways, God, are holy. What god is as great as our God?13Your way, O God, is holy; What god is great like our God?
You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.14You are the God who works wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples.
With your mighty arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph.15You have by Your power redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah.
The waters saw you, God, the waters saw you and writhed; the very depths were convulsed.16The waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were in anguish; The deeps also trembled.
The clouds poured down water, the heavens resounded with thunder; your arrows flashed back and forth.17The clouds poured out water; The skies gave forth a sound; Your arrows flashed here and there.
Your thunder was heard in the whirlwind, your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked.18The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lit up the world; The earth trembled and shook.
Your path led through the sea, your way through the mighty waters, though your footprints were not seen.19Your way was in the sea And Your paths in the mighty waters, And Your footprints may not be known.
You led your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron.20You led Your people like a flock By the hand of Moses and Aaron.
