For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength.1For the choir director. A Psalm of David the servant of the LORD, who spoke to the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said, "I love You, O LORD, my strength."
The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.2The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.3I call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, And I am saved from my enemies.
The cords of death entangled me; the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.4The cords of death encompassed me, And the torrents of ungodliness terrified me.
The cords of the grave coiled around me; the snares of death confronted me.5The cords of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me.
In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry came before him, into his ears.6In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
The earth trembled and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains shook; they trembled because he was angry.7Then the earth shook and quaked; And the foundations of the mountains were trembling And were shaken, because He was angry.
Smoke rose from his nostrils; consuming fire came from his mouth, burning coals blazed out of it.8Smoke went up out of His nostrils, And fire from His mouth devoured; Coals were kindled by it.
He parted the heavens and came down; dark clouds were under his feet.9He bowed the heavens also, and came down With thick darkness under His feet.
He mounted the cherubim and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.10He rode upon a cherub and flew; And He sped upon the wings of the wind.
He made darkness his covering, his canopy around him-- the dark rain clouds of the sky.11He made darkness His hiding place, His canopy around Him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
Out of the brightness of his presence clouds advanced, with hailstones and bolts of lightning.12From the brightness before Him passed His thick clouds, Hailstones and coals of fire.
The LORD thundered from heaven; the voice of the Most High resounded.13The LORD also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered His voice, Hailstones and coals of fire.
He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them.14He sent out His arrows, and scattered them, And lightning flashes in abundance, and routed them.
The valleys of the sea were exposed and the foundations of the earth laid bare at your rebuke, LORD, at the blast of breath from your nostrils.15Then the channels of water appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare At Your rebuke, O LORD, At the blast of the breath of Your nostrils.
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters.16He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters.
He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me.17He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from those who hated me, for they were too mighty for me.
They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the LORD was my support.18They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my stay.
He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.19He brought me forth also into a broad place; He rescued me, because He delighted in me.
The LORD has dealt with me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.20The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands He has recompensed me.
For I have kept the ways of the LORD; I am not guilty of turning from my God.21For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God.
All his laws are before me; I have not turned away from his decrees.22For all His ordinances were before me, And I did not put away His statutes from me.
I have been blameless before him and have kept myself from sin.23I was also blameless with Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.
The LORD has rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.24Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in His eyes.
To the faithful you show yourself faithful, to the blameless you show yourself blameless,25With the kind You show Yourself kind; With the blameless You show Yourself blameless;
to the pure you show yourself pure, but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.26With the pure You show Yourself pure, And with the crooked You show Yourself astute.
You save the humble but bring low those whose eyes are haughty.27For You save an afflicted people, But haughty eyes You abase.
You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.28For You light my lamp; The LORD my God illumines my darkness.
With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.29For by You I can run upon a troop; And by my God I can leap over a wall.
As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD's word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.30As for God, His way is blameless; The word of the LORD is tried; He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him.
For who is God besides the LORD? And who is the Rock except our God?31For who is God, but the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God,
It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.32The God who girds me with strength And makes my way blameless?
He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights.33He makes my feet like hinds' feet, And sets me upon my high places.
He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze.34He trains my hands for battle, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great.35You have also given me the shield of Your salvation, And Your right hand upholds me; And Your gentleness makes me great.
You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way.36You enlarge my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.
I pursued my enemies and overtook them; I did not turn back till they were destroyed.37I pursued my enemies and overtook them, And I did not turn back until they were consumed.
I crushed them so that they could not rise; they fell beneath my feet.38I shattered them, so that they were not able to rise; They fell under my feet.
You armed me with strength for battle; you humbled my adversaries before me.39For You have girded me with strength for battle; You have subdued under me those who rose up against me.
You made my enemies turn their backs in flight, and I destroyed my foes.40You have also made my enemies turn their backs to me, And I destroyed those who hated me.
They cried for help, but there was no one to save them-- to the LORD, but he did not answer.41They cried for help, but there was none to save, Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.
I beat them as fine as windblown dust; I trampled them like mud in the streets.42Then I beat them fine as the dust before the wind; I emptied them out as the mire of the streets.
You have delivered me from the attacks of the people; you have made me the head of nations. People I did not know now serve me,43You have delivered me from the contentions of the people; You have placed me as head of the nations; A people whom I have not known serve me.
foreigners cower before me; as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.44As soon as they hear, they obey me; Foreigners submit to me.
They all lose heart; they come trembling from their strongholds.45Foreigners fade away, And come trembling out of their fortresses.
The LORD lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!46The LORD lives, and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation,
He is the God who avenges me, who subdues nations under me,47The God who executes vengeance for me, And subdues peoples under me.
who saves me from my enemies. You exalted me above my foes; from a violent man you rescued me.48He delivers me from my enemies; Surely You lift me above those who rise up against me; You rescue me from the violent man.
Therefore I will praise you, LORD, among the nations; I will sing the praises of your name.49Therefore I will give thanks to You among the nations, O LORD, And I will sing praises to Your name.
He gives his king great victories; he shows unfailing love to his anointed, to David and to his descendants forever.50He gives great deliverance to His king, And shows lovingkindness to His anointed, To David and his descendants forever.
