| 1By David. Praise the LORD, O my soul! With all that is within me, praise his holy name! | 1Let all that I am praise the LORD; with my whole heart, I will praise his holy name. |
| 2Praise the LORD, O my soul! Do not forget all his kind deeds! | 2Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things he does for me. |
| 3He is the one who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases, | 3He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. |
| 4who delivers your life from the Pit, who crowns you with his loyal love and compassion, | 4He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. |
| 5who satisfies your life with good things, so your youth is renewed like an eagle's. | 5He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! |
| 6The LORD does what is fair, and executes justice for all the oppressed. | 6The LORD gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. |
| 7The LORD revealed his faithful acts to Moses, his deeds to the Israelites. | 7He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. |
| 8The LORD is compassionate and merciful; he is patient and demonstrates great loyal love. | 8The LORD is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. |
| 9He does not always accuse, and does not stay angry. | 9He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. |
| 10He does not deal with us as our sins deserve; he does not repay us as our misdeeds deserve. | 10He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. |
| 11For as the skies are high above the earth, so his loyal love towers over his faithful followers. | 11For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. |
| 12As far as the eastern horizon is from the west, so he removes the guilt of our rebellious actions from us. | 12He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. |
| 13As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on his faithful followers. | 13The LORD is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him. |
| 14For he knows what we are made of; he realizes we are made of clay. | 14For he knows how weak we are; he remembers we are only dust. |
| 15A person's life is like grass. Like a flower in the field it flourishes, | 15Our days on earth are like grass; like wildflowers, we bloom and die. |
| 16but when the hot wind blows by, it disappears, and one can no longer even spot the place where it once grew. | 16The wind blows, and we are gone— as though we had never been here. |
| 17But the LORD continually shows loyal love to his faithful followers, and is faithful to their descendants, | 17But the love of the LORD remains forever with those who fear him. His salvation extends to the children’s children |
| 18to those who keep his covenant, who are careful to obey his commands. | 18of those who are faithful to his covenant, of those who obey his commandments! |
| 19The LORD has established his throne in heaven; his kingdom extends over everything. | 19The LORD has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything. |
| 20Praise the LORD, you angels of his, you powerful warriors who carry out his decrees and obey his orders! | 20Praise the LORD, you angels, you mighty ones who carry out his plans, listening for each of his commands. |
| 21Praise the LORD, all you warriors of his, you servants of his who carry out his desires! | 21Yes, praise the LORD, you armies of angels who serve him and do his will! |
