1While Peter and John were speaking to the people, the priests and the commander of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to them, | 1The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people. |
2angry because they were teaching the people and announcing in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. | 2They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. |
3So they seized them and put them in jail until the next day (for it was already evening). | 3They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. |

16saying, "What should we do with these men? For it is plain to all who live in Jerusalem that a notable miraculous sign has come about through them, and we cannot deny it. | 16"What are we going to do with these men?" they asked. 27"For indeed both Herod and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles and the people of Israel, assembled together in this city against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, | 27Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed. |
