A song, a psalm of Asaph. O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God! 1A Song or Psalm of Asaph. Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God.
For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile. 2For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head.
They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish. 3They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones.
They say, "Come on, let's annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more." 4They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance.
Yes, they devise a unified strategy; they form an alliance against you. 5For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee:
It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, 6The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes;
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre. 7Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre;
Even Assyria has allied with them, lending its strength to the descendants of Lot. (Selah) 8Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah.
Do to them as you did to Midian--as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River! 9Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison:
They were destroyed at Endor; their corpses were like manure on the ground. 10Which perished at Endor: they became as dung for the earth.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna, 11Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna:
who said, "Let's take over the pastures of God!" 12Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of God in possession.
O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind! 13O my God, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind.
Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides, 14As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire;
chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm. 15So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm.
Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD. 16Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD.
May they be humiliated and continually terrified! May they die in shame! 17Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
Then they will know that you alone are the LORD, the sovereign king over all the earth. 18That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
