A song, a psalm of Asaph. O God, do not be silent! Do not ignore us! Do not be inactive, O God! 1A song. A psalm of Asaph. God, do not keep silent. Do not be deaf, God; do not be idle.
For look, your enemies are making a commotion; those who hate you are hostile. 2See how Your enemies make an uproar; those who hate You have acted arrogantly.
They carefully plot against your people, and make plans to harm the ones you cherish. 3They devise clever schemes against Your people; they conspire against Your treasured ones.
They say, "Come on, let's annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more." 4They say, "Come, let us wipe them out as a nation so that Israel's name will no longer be remembered."
Yes, they devise a unified strategy; they form an alliance against you. 5For they have conspired with one mind; they form an alliance against You--
It includes the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites, 6the tents of Edom and the Ishmaelites, Moab and the Hagrites,
Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia and the inhabitants of Tyre. 7Gebal, Ammon, and Amalek, Philistia with the inhabitants of Tyre.
Even Assyria has allied with them, lending its strength to the descendants of Lot. (Selah) 8Even Assyria has joined them; they lend support to the sons of Lot. Selah
Do to them as you did to Midian--as you did to Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River! 9Deal with them as You did with Midian, as You did with Sisera and Jabin at the Kishon River.
They were destroyed at Endor; their corpses were like manure on the ground. 10They were destroyed at En-dor; they became manure for the ground.
Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their rulers like Zebah and Zalmunna, 11Make their nobles like Oreb and Zeeb, and all their tribal leaders like Zebah and Zalmunna,
who said, "Let's take over the pastures of God!" 12who said, "Let us seize God's pastures for ourselves."
O my God, make them like dead thistles, like dead weeds blown away by the wind! 13Make them like tumbleweed, my God, like straw before the wind.
Like the fire that burns down the forest, or the flames that consume the mountainsides, 14As fire burns a forest, as a flame blazes through mountains,
chase them with your gale winds, and terrify them with your windstorm. 15so pursue them with Your tempest and terrify them with Your storm.
Cover their faces with shame, so they might seek you, O LORD. 16Cover their faces with shame so that they will seek Your name Yahweh.
May they be humiliated and continually terrified! May they die in shame! 17Let them be put to shame and terrified forever; let them perish in disgrace.
Then they will know that you alone are the LORD, the sovereign king over all the earth. 18May they know that You alone-- whose name is Yahweh-- are the Most High over all the earth.
