| 1When the people complained, it displeased the LORD. When the LORD heard it, his anger burned, and so the fire of the LORD burned among them and consumed some of the outer parts of the camp. | 1Now the people began complaining openly before the LORD about hardship. When the LORD heard, His anger burned, and fire from the LORD blazed among them and consumed the outskirts of the camp. |
| 2When the people cried to Moses, he prayed to the LORD, and the fire died out. | 2Then the people cried out to Moses, and he prayed to the LORD, and the fire died down. |
| 3So he called the name of that place Taberah because there the fire of the LORD burned among them. | 3So that place was named Taberah, because the LORD's fire had blazed among them. |

| 8And the people went about and gathered it, and ground it with mills or pounded it in mortars; they baked it in pans and made cakes of it. | 11And Moses said to the LORD, "Why have you afflicted your servant? Why have I not found favor in your sight, that you lay the burden of this entire people on me? | 11So Moses asked the LORD, "Why have You brought such trouble on Your servant? Why are You angry with me, and why do You burden me with all these people? |
| 12Did I conceive this entire people? Did I give birth to them, that you should say to me, 'Carry them in your arms, as a foster father bears a nursing child,' to the land which you swore to their fathers? | 12Did I conceive all these people? Did I give them birth so You should tell me, 'Carry them at your breast, as a nursing woman carries a baby,' to the land that You swore to give their fathers? |
| 13From where shall I get meat to give to this entire people, for they cry to me, 'Give us meat, that we may eat!' | 13Where can I get meat to give all these people? For they are crying to me: 'Give us meat to eat!' |
| 14I am not able to bear this entire people alone, because it is too heavy for me! | 14I can't carry all these people by myself. They are too much for me. |
| 15But if you are going to deal with me like this, then kill me immediately. If I have found favor in your sight then do not let me see my trouble." | 15If You are going to treat me like this, please kill me right now. If You are pleased with me, don't let me see my misery anymore." |
| 16The LORD said to Moses, "Gather to me seventy men of the elders of Israel, whom you know are elders of the people and officials over them, and bring them to the tent of meeting; let them take their position there with you. | 16The LORD answered Moses, "Bring Me 70 men from Israel known to you as elders and officers of the people. Take them to the tent of meeting and have them stand there with you. |
| 17Then I will come down and speak with you there, and I will take part of the spirit that is on you, and will put it on them, and they will bear some of the burden of the people with you, so that you do not bear it all by yourself. | 17Then I will come down and speak with you there. I will take some of the Spirit who is on you and put the Spirit on them. They will help you bear the burden of the people, so that you do not have to bear it by yourself." |
| 18"And say to the people, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, and you will eat meat, for you have wept in the hearing of the LORD, saying, "Who will give us meat to eat, for life was good for us in Egypt?" Therefore the LORD will give you meat, and you will eat. | 18Tell the people: Purify yourselves in readiness for tomorrow, and you will eat meat because you cried before the LORD: 'Who will feed us meat? We really had it good in Egypt.' The LORD will give you meat and you will eat. |

| 20but a whole month, until it comes out your nostrils and makes you sick, because you have despised the LORD who is among you and have wept before him, saying, "Why did we ever come out of Egypt?"'" | 20but for a whole month--until it comes out of your nostrils and becomes nauseating to you--because you have rejected the LORD who is among you, and cried to Him: 'Why did we ever leave Egypt?'" |
| 21Moses said, "The people around me are 600,000 on foot; but you say, 'I will give them meat, that they may eat for a whole month.' | 21But Moses replied, "I'm in the middle of a people with 600,000 foot soldiers, yet You say, 'I will give them meat, and they will eat for a month.' |
| 22Would they have enough if the flocks and herds were slaughtered for them? If all the fish of the sea were caught for them, would they have enough?" | 22If flocks and herds were slaughtered for them, would they have enough? | 23And the LORD said to Moses, "Is the LORD's hand shortened? Now you will see whether my word to you will come true or not!" | 23The LORD answered Moses, "Is the LORD's power limited? You will see whether or not what I have promised will happen to you." |
| 24So Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. He then gathered seventy men of the elders of the people and had them stand around the tabernacle. | 24Moses went out and told the people the words of the LORD. | 25And the LORD came down in the cloud and spoke to them, and he took some of the Spirit that was on Moses and put it on the seventy elders.
